Baby beardie doing some odd things.?

Question

first, he will not eat in front of me. he is not eating many greens. and when i pick him up i often notice him take a breath and hold it for a while. could someone explain these things?

Besides the shy eating part, my baby does the same thing. He puffs up so big it looks like he's gonna pop! The second I touch him though he lets it out. He's starting to recognize his mom's touch. =P

Also, mine eats his greens on a daily basis. They've been offered to him since the first day he's hatched so I think that's the only reason why he eats them. Most people don't introduce veggies until they're older. Mines only a month old and he loves kale. =)

Don't worry, your baby is just fine. You're gonna witness TONS of goofy things they do.

That is all typical baby bearded dragon behavior. Baby breadeds as in most reptiles are very skiddish, trying under all circumstances to avoid an conflicts. He will not eat in front of you because eating makes him vunerable. He still sees you as a potenial predator and therefore will not put himself in a vunerable situation. And baby breadeds hardly eat any greens. As they mature they will eat more greens but as babys stick to crickets and mealworms. He is also puffing himself up because he feels threatened by you. Remember this is no dog or cat, its a wild animal. He sees you as a threat and takes a deep breath in order to make himself appear bigger and meaner so you will think twice about eating him.

im not sure about him not eating when your around. but i know a way for him 2 eat veggies.

give him the veggies in the morning, BEFORE the crickets. that way the veggies will be the only thing he can eat. after hes eaten at least  half his veggies, give him his crickets, or worms, etc...................

that way if you keep repeating this he'll realize that he gets crickets when he eats his veggies and he'll eat his veggies WAY  more often
