Question:

Baby biorb for betta?

Hello,

I have recently purchased a betta who isn't getting on with his tank mates in the main tank, so i've had to move him to a hospital tank. I'm now looking for a permanent tank for him.

Would a baby Biorb be suitable? (15 litres). I originally wasn't planning on buying a 2nd tank, this is only a last resort because he can't stay in the main tank, and I'm limited by space in the house.

If I can get the baby Biorb, would it also be ok to put some neon tetras and/or corydoras in with him?

Thanks.

  1. yeh he would be fine in the baby bio orb! i keep neons and corydoras in with my male betta!

  2. you should get like a 10 gallon biorb and some tetras. it may be a bit expensive though.

  3. Hi, best bet is buy him a regular 10- gallon tank with a fitted lid, filter & heater. All of the 'novelty' shaped tanks including BiOrbs [which are nothing more than overpriced bowls] are a waste of money, are difficult to maintain & are poor environments for fish.

  4. The biorb probably won't work and for one main reason - the aeration built into the tank.  It produces far more water current than bettas prefer.  These are so expensive anyway you can get a much more betta-friendly set up for much less money that uses up the same space.  Eclipse has 5 gallon hex systems that have better filtration, cost less and take up the same amount of space and don't produce the water movement that will annoy a betta.

Don't ever put cories in a biorb.  Their barbels are far too sensitive for the gravel media in a biorb.  And don't put anything but a betta in a 5 gallon - that's really only sufficient enough to support him - nothing else.

Another thing to consider is making the current setting work.  Is your tank big enough?  Is it densely planted?  Are their caves?  By adding some of these items you may be able to make the current setting work.  I have a betta in a 55 gallon with gouramis.  The key to making it work is to have a tank large enough for them to establish their own territory.  The tank is very densely planted with caves that allows for them to hide when they want to and all is well.

    Good luck : )

  5. Biorbs are not actually that great.

They are basically just expensive bowls.

You could buy a cheaper and better home for your betta such as an eclipse system:

    or

even adding a heater (which is around $15) it is still less expensive than the BiOrb

If you want to give your betta some friends you would need at least a 10 gallon tank.

    Good luck! :)

EDIT: I liked the frist tank you picked:

  6. I have a biorb and its great. Its makes a real talking point because of its shape. I don't know about keeping a betta fish in it as i do not have 1 but the neons would be fine as i have them in my tank.

  7. that would be to may fish for a 15 liters. A betta is just fine by itself  just do water changes to keep it clean
