  1. ok. First and foremost this bird needs to be taken to vet asap. Any bird that has been attacked by a cat or dog will die if not. Cats have certain things in saliva that is toxic to birds. The visit will be free as it is for wildlife. If cant take to vet then to a wildlife rehabber who has meds and can save it also this is also free. Needs to be warm before fed and kept in quite and dim lit place. If it is a baby needs to be fed from am to pm. Put chopped up mealworms in cage (get at petstore) put wild bird seed and shallow dish of water. No bread. This can cause yeast overgrowth in crop of bird. Plus if bird is bleeding not a good sign can go into shock. may not seem like much blood but birds have very little in their bodies and can die very quickly as they cannot regulate their body temp . Please get to vet or rehabber asap. Until then keep warm quite and offer food and water. Good idea to keep cats in for the wildlifes sake and the cats. Good luck and thanks for caring.

  2. This bird needs to be taken to a local wildlife rehab or it will die from the wounds your cat inflicted. Cats carry a lot of bacteria in their saliva and infection will set in quickly.  Look here for a rehab:

I would also suggest you keep your cat inside where it will be safe from MANY outside dangers as well as not being able to harm and kill native wildlife.

  3. Does the baby black bird have all of it's feathers in, besides the ones that the cat plucked? Or is it a fledgling? You can grind up some dog food to feed it, or give wild bird feed, oatmeal, or a mixture of the three. You should take the band aid off of the bird. They have EXTREMELY thin skin, so be careful when you're doing it.

Also, since you just found this bird today, and it was with cats, it could have internal bleeding. Birds don't generally show when they're bleeding internally. Unfortunately, the only way you'll know is if his condition worsens gradually until you find him at the bottom of the cage.

If not, though, you can release him when his wing feathers are fully in, his tail feathers have grown back, and he knows how to fly. If he doesn't already have all his feathers, when he's getting them, you can toss him not too high or far on your bed to teach him to fly. As soon as he flies well, you can release him. Other black birds [or crows?] will teach him how to survive in the wild.

  4. now that youve caged it, im not sure if you can release him back in the wild
