I am 30 weeks now, I have been having lots of complications since about 24 weeks, bed rest and everything. Doc doesn't for see me lasting past 34 weeks, He said that if I can hold off that long my baby wont need to be transferred to childrens hospital he can stay right with me. Anyone know babys chances of being ok at 34 weeks? Im scared! I have two other children who were at 37 and they were big and healthy!

  1. at 28 weeks i went into early labor they stopped it but i was told i had an irritable uterus and to go on moderate bed rest (no walking) they said they couldn't see me going past 34-35 weeks i went to 4 days before my due date and had to have a c-section because i had preeclampsia and he was so big! my doctor said if i made it to 35 weeks i wouldn't have to go to the city hospital and could have him in the small town hospital that had no children's ward. according to him the baby would be fine. just hold in there!

  2. He should be fine.  Babies born after 29 weeks have a very high survival rate.  They may do an amniocentesis on you to make sure that the lungs are mature.  I know that procedure is scary, shoving a long needle into the womb, but it is well worth it.  My first son had one, wasn't ready, had another one and was ready.  Born with no complications (38 weeks.)  My second son was born 38 weeks also, no amniocentesis, lungs were not mature - in the NICU for 4 weeks on every machine imaginable.

  3. i had my little girl at 37 weeks...she was 4 pounds 11 ounces.... stayed in the nicu for i think a week and a half because she was so stubborn with eating.  But my friend had her baby the day before me at 35 weeks and hers was 5.5 i believe somewhere between that and 6 pounds i forget but she was in the nicu for 2 weeks...she was breathing to heavily the first day..but after that it was just the eating thing.   dont worry   every baby is different..i heard many many times of a baby being born around then and being able to go home when mom does :-)

  4. 37 weeks is considered "full term" so 34 weeks is only 3 weeks shy. The longer they are in the better the chances. My sister in law gave birth to her first son at 34 weeks and he was 4lbs (they induced due to failure of the baby to thrive due to high blood pressure) when he was born and went home with her 2 days later (when she was released). He has since had NO complications what so ever. Although he is short he had no medical issues that could be linked to him being born early.

  5. Your baby will be FINE! My baby was born at 25 wks. He was 1lb. 11 oz.. He is doing great. He has never had any complications.  He is now 5 lb. 3 oz.. I'm just waiting to bring him home. Keep the faith and don't let any negativity enter in and you'll be fine.

  6. Your baby would be fine in the long run. At 34 weeks they would need to be in the special care nursery for at least a week or two (ie-the NICU) but they wouldn't need to get transfered to a pediatric hospital. Often they need a little extra help with feeding, maintaining temperature, and maintaining blood sugar at that age.  But after the first couple weeks, when they are sort of playing catch up, they are just like any other baby.

Try to relax.  What will be will be. You've done great to last 30 weeks and gotten out of that critical time period. You should be proud.

    Congrats

  7. at 34 weeks usually yeah its fine my niece was born at 35 weeks was healthy, shes almost 4 now and a smart kid, they delivering babies at like 28 weeks now so im sure there might not be no need for your baby to go childrens hospital if he or she is born around then, but if so this happends to lots of mothers and it passes. but never know you might even carry longer or full term, were stronger then we think. good luck

  8. todays technology will help him. he will be fine, just say a little prayer

  9. A girl I work with her babies where born at 32 and 34 weeks and hers where fine. 5lbs and odd ounces but other then being small they were fine! :)

Good luck! They will give you steriods to boost the baby before they induce you anyway!

  10. yeah he should be fine. thats only a little over a month early

  11. absolutely! my son was born at 34 weeks and is in perfect health at 5 1/2 years .  I was gestational diabetic (high risk), and there were no complications at all when he was born.  often babies born at 34 weeks need to be on a respirator for a while until their lungs are fully developed, this is normal.  just don't worry about any of it.  everything will be fine!!!

  12. yes my daughter was born at 32 week and she is a healthy 2 year old

  13. Hi,I thnk 34 wks is safe enough 4 ur baby 2 b born! 14. I think so.

    and I hope so !

    Good luck !

  15. Both of my step-children were born at that time and they were just a bit small but perfectly healthy. They are 8 and 9 years old now so I really wouldn't worry about it. They left the hospital the same time every other baby does that is born a few weeks later than that. Good luck and don't stress!

  16. Pray to Jesus, our savior.

  17. Ask your doctor !

  18. I'm 34 weeks and just reading one of the weekly emails I subscribed to and it states that chances for survival at 34 weeks is better than 90%.

  20. My third was born at 34 weeks and although it took her a couple of days to obtain the sucking reflex, she was perfectly healthy.  She is 8 years old now and you would never know she was preemie.  At that gestational age, all systems are developed with the exception of the lungs; however, when a baby is under stress, which yours sounds like it is due to the complications, their lungs develop more rapidly.  My daughter's placenta was ripping away from the lining of the uterus and her lungs were completely mature at 34 weeks.

    Good Luck!
