Question:

Baby budgies - flight feathers

Hi, can anyone help. We have had baby budgies this year and they have now left he nest box but they do not have any flight feathers. Is there any reason why - vitamins etc that they need.

Any help you be great.

  1. There are some illnesses that cause a birds feathers to not grow in, or causes them to be very weak, or even to become twisted. The first thing that you might look into ASAP would be getting them into an avian vet so that disease and illness can be ruled out from his lack of not being able to grow feathers.

    You may also want to provide them with extra cooked eggs, carrots, cooked sweet potatoes, and dark green leafy veggies in hopes that their feathers would grow in stronger (if any do).

    Genetics probably play a role in this too. Feather shade, length,  flexibility and toughness are all determined by genes. If this is not the first clutch from these birds, and past clutches have been normal, then it probably is not genetics. Take them to an avian vet asap.
