I'm the very proud owner of a 1 year old pearl cockatiel! I love being with him and playing with him and feeding him but there's a big problem now. he stays in my room with me. he's not allowed to stay anywhere else in the house since it's been decided that the cat rules the domain and my parents just don't want him outside my bedroom more than he needs to be, but now i can't be in my bedroom without him either squawking up a storm or flying circles around my head like a bat and then landing on my bed or my homework which he then proceeds to soil. My homework is the problem. I can't concentrate with him demanding so much attention and ignoring him doesn't seem to be working. I have two very loud little brothers and a very loud mom so my bedroom is supposed to be the more quiet place in the house. i don't mind him making his chattering noises or imitations, but how do i get him to stop all his screaming and even better how can i get him to just be content (continued below)

  1. Covering your cocatiels cage is NOT cruel unless you leave him covered all the time.

Put him in the cage cover him let him settle then do your school work.

When you are done pay special attention to your little friend.  He'll soon learn that if he's quiet under the cover he'll get your attention later.  At a year he's still sort of a baby so you will have to train him and it will take awhile.  Just do it!  You will be glad you did.

Almost every problem with cocatiels stems from a lack of a routine.  Set up something you can live with and your friend will be happier and consequently so will you.

    Good luck in school.

  2. try taking him out, make sure his wings are clipped. Take him to a local pet store just so he gets interaction with other people.

take him to the park, or a vets office.

Find a friend that will allow you to bring it to her house and let it talk to them and walk around their house.

Do this 2-3 times a week and it will socialize your bird and make him happy!
