Ok my toddler is 2 and is constipated. I bought her some apple prune juice and just started giving it to her. But tonight she was straining so hard she was shaking and when I changed her diaper her stool had blood on it but not tears in her skin near her butt. Is it possible that she strained so hard she tore something up inside? I am worried about the blood!

  1. If it is just a trace of blood, it should be no problem.

When my baby had the same problem, a nurse told us to put vaseline down there, and it would solve that issue.

They have stool softeners for children as young as 2, but honestly, I would just keep up with the apple juice for 24-48 hours, and the problem should resolve.

Binding foods to avoid: bananas, rice, white bread, refined starches.

Feed fruits and vegetables, the fiber will help her.

    Good luck!

  2. continue with the apple juice and water, you may have to get a r****m thermometer and stick it in some Vaseline then put it in her r****m.  sound horrible but think of it as taking her temp.  the vaseline would give moisture to her r****m and allow the hard turds to slip out.  the blood is nothing to worry about just make sure she drink lots of fluids, especially when eating rice, bananas and potatoes.  You have any more questions call your pharmacist and they can give you better advice.

  3. I would take her to the doctor! I'm not one to always run to the doctor for everything that's not right, but I wouldn't be able to sit well with seeing blood coming out of my child's bottom, that's not supposed to happen.

  4. When my son gets really constipated I give him a glycerine suppository. Usually helps him within 15 minutes.
