A cat attacked a baby dove. It's about a month old and had a fractired leg. Also, His eye popped out and that eye is now blind. Should I "put it down" or try to save it? How can I save it?

  1. GO TO THE VET.

  2. Put it in a small box with a towel or old shirt bunched up for tonight.  If you have a heating pad put it under the box on low. Then tomorrow do a search for a wildlife rehabilitation group near your area and  call them. The bird  needs to take antibiotics because of the cat attack. They can set his broken leg and It can survive fine with one eye in the wild.  If it your cat keep it in the house. Doves have two babies and the other one is still out there.

  3. HURRY, TAKE IT TO A RANGERS STATION, ANIMAL REHABILITATION CENTER, OR SOMEWHERE TO HELP IT BEFORE IT GETS SICKER!!!

  4. you can let the bird heal on it's own. Don't rush things, just give it a chance.

  5. With mother natures help, and a little time, just let the bird rest in a comfy place that you can make for it out of bedding, a towel, or something else soft, once it is well, see if you can get the bird back to socializing and living with other birds. Create like a bird hospital for it to recuperate in and make sure it has food, water, and that it is stress free. The bird should not be in pain, but that will come once the bird has healed some. Read some books on what the bird should be eating and what else it needs. You can also try to see if another mom bird of the same species can take it under her wing as one of her own to nurse back to health.

  6. You should hurry and take it someplace in the morning. Time is an important factor, yes there are ways to heal the birds leg with a cast that you personally can make for it, but you need to be sure that you aren't pulling and putting so much pressure on it that you are damaging it more, if the bird pulls away then you are probably pinching it's nerves and hurting it if you try to do this.

On nature shows the scientists are very good at healing animals with casts, perhaps you can ask a student at a college or university what they would recommend. You may be able to go to the head of the department of biology, or veterinary medicine and ask the head of the department if it is ok for you to ask for one of the student's help.

Have you tried a Vets office? or an Animal rehabilitation group?

To a vet or trained student or professional person here you come birdie <3 <3

  7. Call a local avian vet.  Most will refer you to volunteers who rehabilitate injured wild birds.

Most metropolitan areas in the country have them.  They don't usually come to you, so you'll need to place the dove in a box with towels and drive to their location.  These people are expects at getting wild birds well and back into the wild.

    I've done this several times.
