my baby has been drinking every 2 hours or so along w/ breastfeeding. but i know my milk is dwindling down a whole lot. to begin w/, never really produced enough so i would breastfeed for a few minutes than give her a bottle to fill up on. anyhow, she is a very healthy, chubby baby, but recently i noticed she has not been drinking as much. her weight is above the 75 percentile, and she is getting bigger and bigger but she only drinks up to 15-20 oz of milk. they said the average baby at her weight which is 15lbs at age 3 months, should drink at least 32+ ounces. she has never drank that much but than again she just turned 3 months on the 14th of august. anyhow, i am worried for her. she has plenty of wet diapers which is a good sign that she is not dehydrated. should i be worried if she seems to be doing fine? she sleeps all night from 930 til 8 in the morning, so i don't feed her in between those time unless she wants to breastfeed. any advice would help. thanks.

  1. If she's still putting on weight, and has plenty of wet diapers, then don't worry about the quantity she's drinking. Remember that the quantities are a guide, and that every baby is different, and also that you're supplementing her bottle with breast milk.

At 3 months, she's also more efficiently using the milk she is taking, as her body learns to digest better.

  2. If she's putting on the weight then carry on as you are doing. My daughter is the same. She never has anywhere near the recommended amount and I worried all the time. Then I just stopped adding it up. She could be having more breast milk than you realise.

  3. She should be getting up to feed a lest once during the night at this age.

    Wake her up.

    Just ask you Dr.
