Question:

Baby feet when learning to walk?

My daughter is 10.5 months old. She can crawl, cruise and stand on her own for a short time. When I hold her hands to walk with her she turns only one foot in, she does this with and without shoes on. She mostly walks on her tippy toes but i saw that was normal. When she pushes her toy she is not always on tippy toes.

So, when your kids learned to walk, did they turn their feet in? I am worried because it is only the one!

Thanks!

  1. My doctor told me that babies usually grow out of the turned in foot problem, but you should probably point it out to your doctor.  Generally, it's better to wait for them to grow out of it than delay their walking by putting a cast on their feet, but some cases are bad enough that they still do that.

I'm not sure if walking on tippy toes is a problem, but they always ask me on the well child check questionnaires whether my baby is walking on tippy toes, so you might want to ask your doctor about it.  However, don't go running out to your doctor right away.  You can wait until your well child check to discuss these things with your doctor.

  2. Almost all babies turn their feet in.  It looks like they are walking pigeon toed.  Once your baby learns to walk and keep their balance better, then they will start to perfect their footwork.  Don't worry.
