Ok. I am currently watching an 8 month old and I was making her formula.Only think is I'm not sure what temperature her formula should be. I microwaved the water for two minutes and it seemed to hot and so I know they do that whole "checking it on the wrist" but how exactly do I do that?

I need help fast..!

  1. Microwaving it for 2 minutes is way too long.  If the milk is already in the baby bottle, 20 seconds should be just fine.  Just make sure you lightly shake it to stir it up to mix the warm spots in so the baby's mouth doesn't get burned.

To check the temperature, shake a few drops on your wrist - if it feels the same or just a little warmer than your wrist, it's the right temperature.

  2. I really don't recommend microwaving it.  It can make hot spots.  Make sure you shake it well.  It should basically just take the chill out of it.  It shouldn't be hot or even very warm.  You can add a little hot water to a cold bottle too to make it warm. Just shake it well.

  3. First of all NEVER warm a bottle in the microwave!!  You can very easily scald the baby's mouth.  Pour hot water in a cup and let it sit there.  As it is, most formula fed babies that I know will take the bottle at room temperature.

Second, you need to shake the bottle now since the microwave doesn't warm up the fluid evenly and there can be very hot parts that can harm the baby.  After you've shaken it VERY well, shake it upside down so that some of it drips on your wrist.  It should only be slightly warmer than your wrist.

Third, ask the parents when they come home how their child likes the bottle.

  4. If your microwaving it should only be for a few seconds. I'd recommend 20 seconds on power 5 if it's a good microwave. We've never warmed my son's up before and he likes it that way. As long as it isn't refridgerator cold it should be fine.

To check it just squirt some on your wrist to see how warm it is.

  5. oh goodness..I know it easier to warm the bottle in the microwave..especially when you have a screaming baby on your hands..but NEVER warm it that way. You should put the bottle in warm water..or hold it under hot running tap. This is more time consuming and rather annoying, but it is worth it for the safety of the baby. Also did you know that you do not have to warm a bottle for a baby. it is only preferred by some babies. I have five children and only one of them wanted their bottles warmed.

  6. You squeeze the nipple(if bottle is already made) over your wrist so a few drops come out. You can do the same with the water if you haven't mixed to two yet. Just flick a few drops over your wrist. It will need to feel lukewarm or room temp. for it to be okay for the baby to drink. If it's too hot when you mix it with the formula then just run it under cool water for a couple of minutes until it cools down enough for her to drink.

  7. you should be microwaving it for 20 seconds. and when you test on the arm, it should almost feel the same temp as your arm temp
