Question:

Baby is an extremely light sleeper?

My baby is having a hard time with naps, because the slightest noise (a car even passing by) wakes her up. I am an extremely light sleeper myself....but she is super cranky because she is not getting enough sleep. It's not loud where we live at all. I was even considering ear plugs.

  1. Give her ear plugs.

  2. install tempered glass and reinforce the room or sound proof the rest of the house. I'm a very light sleeper too. The way your house is built makes a big difference. Sound can travel very easily to her if you live in a small apartment. ear muffs may be ok but she'd swallow the ear plugs no?

I was gonna suggest to make her get used to it but that's better for when she's like 3 or 4.

  3. Lol!  She is going to have to get used to noise one way or another!  Start making more noise around the house until she gets used to it!.

  4. Emma is also a very light sleeper.  I have a CD player directly under her crib and it plays relaxing lullaby music when she naps and sleeps at night.

  5. During her day naps, why don't you try some soft soothing music in the background?

  6. Oh yes!  Go get an air purifier at Walmart ASAP!  Hamilton Beach makes one for about $12 and it plugs right into the outlet (which then blocks the other outlet).  WHITE NOISE is a big thing for babies ..... the womb is a very noisy place and they are used to that and once born, the silence can be very disturbing to them!   Even a small fan, pointed away from the baby, can provide the white noise that will probably help her settle into a deep sleep (which she and YOU probably both need!)

Been there, done that, can't sleep without it myself now!

  7. My daughter has been like that since the day she was born (is now 14 mo). We live in a busy townhouse development so it's never quiet. Everyone said she would learn to sleep more soundly but it never happened. Finally I went out and bought a white noise machine for her (I've been using one for years), I only use it for naps but now I get a solid 2-3 hour break.

This is the one I got from Bed Bath and Beyond:

It makes a good night light too.

  8. I really wouldn't recommend ear plugs because they can cause ear aches and infections and god forbid it fall out and her swallow it! I would put her in a quiet dark room with the windows closed and maybe some white noise in the back round like soft music or a small fan or humidifier hum. She should fall right asleep and be used to noises around her. good luck!
