Question:

Baby lizards. PIX?

I found some baby lizards in a box in my garage. I live in southern California... very close to the beach.

What kind could they be? I have them in a Big bucket with leaves dirt and sticks but want to move them into my old terrarium.

But first I'd like to know how to house them (specific needs ie. setting, temperature, light. etc)

And what they eat? I got some TINY crickets from outside and put them in the bucket...

Thanks for any help!

  1. to me they dont look like 2 different types.  just different patterns!   anyway im 99% sure that they are wood skinks!    thats probaby y u found them in a box.   they usually live in hollow trees!    and they doo eat crickets!   dont feed them meal worms because they arent used to digesting the tough shell of a meal worm   so only feed them crickets!   also i would just get them a uva/uvb bulb usually available at any petstore and u shld also put a lizard heating pad under the tank!   or a human one is acceptable as long as it does not get too hot!    i would get them a rock cave , reptile woodchip bedding and artificial plants!    they also need their cage misted once a day!    good luck and i hope they do good!

  2. Basic needs for reptiles is a UV light.

    It's essential.

    Heat is another essential.

Since you have to assume they got in your garage under their own power (cause the lizard fairy didn't leave them...) it's safe to assume that the weather where you live is comfy.  They were seeking shade, so make it a little cooler than the weather outside.

I don't know what kind they are.  A reptile vet might.  A reptile pet store would for sure.  NOT Petco. NOT Petsmart.  Those people are idiots.  Bring pictures (because travel is too stressful for reptiles) to a SPECIALTY reptile store.  Follow their directions carefully.

    Generally wildlife dies in captivity.

    Why?

It's very hard to reproduce their native environments.

It's very hard to get them the proper nutrition.

They're usually sick/parasite infested when you find them.

Being captive sends wildlife into shock.  Shock alone kills them.  They don't understant the concept of "pet".  They only know they've been caught (and are surrounded) by a huge predator and they're waiting to be dinner.

If it was me, I'd let them go in a shady part of my yard.  I'd put out a pan of water (to attract insects they may eat) and provide shade.  Native species will hang out.

  3. They are two different types of lizards, unfortunately, I can't think of the first ones type...and I don't know the second ones. It might not be a good idea to keep them in the same tank though.

Oh, and they don't eat crickets. You might want to go to a pet store and buy meal worms.

One more thing, make sure thay have a water dish to drink out of, and to lay in.

  4. The first looks like a fence lizard, the second could be a different color morph or a different Sceloprus species (spiny lizards)

You will need a 20 gallon tank at least.
