Question:

Baby measuring big at 32 weeks?

I am currently 33 weeks pregnant. The past few times my doctor measured my stomach, I was average size, meaning the baby would be about 6 to 7 pounds when born if she continued growing at the same rate. Last week when i went, he said she is a bit bigger and if she continues will now be about 8 pounds. I am happy she is big and healthy, but am worried my small frame may not be able to handle such a big baby. I am 5'2 and weighed 98 pounds before I got pregnant. I now weigh about 121 pounds.

Did anyone else experience this same thing and what happend? Thanks!

  1. The doctors really have no clue what they are talking about when it comes to the size of the baby.  I saw different obgyn's in my practice and each had a different opinion on what size Elyse would be.  Most said she would be a "big, good sized baby".  She was only 6 lb 15 oz.

Don't worry, you will be just fine, many smaller framed women give birth to large babies all of the time.

  2. I would not worry about it.  The measurement is just a estimate.  It could just be your weight gain on your small frame as well.  My best friend was told her baby was going to be over 10 pounds.  She is 5-4 and weight 110 pre pregnancy but she gained 60 pounds during.  Her daughter was only 6-5.  Late ultrasounds at this time are not as accurate so don't stress.  Enjoy these last few weeks of pregnancy and sleep.  Good luck.

  3. Just so that you know, they are guessing at the weight of the baby.  They told me at 33 weeks that my son would be 10 pounds when he was born.  He was 7 pounds and eight ounces.  Don't worry about it.  It is just a scientific guess.  If they were worried, they would say something.  I have a very small frame as well and had no problems.

  4. My mom was about the same as you and delivered both her babies vaginally.  The first, with medication, 8lbs 13oz and the second (me), without medication, 9lbs 1oz.  Just wait to see how she is growing, it could just be a little growth spurt.  Good luck!
