Right now I am registered for a monitor without video. Is having video worth it or is the sound just fine?

  1. I had one without video and did just fine. I think the video is a waste of money. I would, however, get a good quality non- video monitor b/c I had bought a cheap one and it picked up radio stations and phone convos!

  2. its really up to you and how you feel!

i have had just about every moniter there is around! sound, vision, breathing monitoring etc!

like someone suggested the angel are brand! they have had 4 differant types of there sound and movement monitors and i have had all of them, they are really good, they give you peace of mind! i think you should go for a sound and movement sensor! yes with the video you can see them, but if [god forbid] anything were to ever happen then with the sonud/movement monitor you will be notified by the alarm! the beest for these are the angelcare as suggested! the have a sensor pad which you place under babys mattress and if it doesnt dectect movement or breathing for around 20 or 30 seconds it sets of the alarm! so i think this would be better than a video as it alerts you to any problems! i have tried a video one and didnt find it all that helpfull! even though i could see my baby i still kept checking loads so angel care ones are the best! obviously you cant rely on the monitors and there has to be adult supervision, it will give you peace of mind! look out for the false alarms when you first start using it though, as if you are not used to the monitor or where to place it then it can sometime give a false alram! but you will get this sorted very quickly! hope this helped! good luck!

  3. I use the angelcare monitor, so i know that the baby is breathing, but now i would love to have a video monitor as well as sound and movement.  Just more peice of mind.

Also, my baby is a groaner, so it would be good to look at her on a monitor instead of getting up when i think shes up.

  4. These were some of the factors I used when trying to decide the same thing.  (i ended up w/ a NON video one and itwas fine). If baby is on a 2nd level, then video is convenient for peace of mind w/o trips up stairs to check on things. If house is BIG...video maybe convenient... we have a smaller home all onelevel so it seemed silly to me to have the video w/ baby so close.  I was a 'breathing checker' mommy, and i dont think the monitor gets you that kind of detail, so if you know your a mommy who will just go stare at baby sleeping and watch for his breathing then the monitor I don't think, will do good, but I don't know for sure.  When baby is awake, you'll know it w/o the video.... I guess that's my take on it, but not ever having HAD the video, there might be positive's that i'm not aware of...

  5. Video - my daughter is on the second floor, so it really helped to see if she was really waking or just a little fuss before falling back to sleep.  This way I didn't have to run every time I heard a noise.  I still use it because my 8 month old is mobile now and we co-sleep/breastfeed.  So it is very, very helpful for me to see when she wakes.

    Good luck and congrats!

  6. with video

  7. Hi - sounds only would be just fine.  We have a monitor with a video and it is great fun to be able to watch him and see the baby's sleeping positions etc.  But that is really an optional accessory (nice-to-have) so the sound monitor is sufficient.

  8. From my experience, If you're a worry wart like myself than I would recommend the video baby monitor. I bought a sound monitor and it was fine for the first couple of months but now at 3 months I regret not purchasing a video monitor. I put my daughter in her own room and in her crib at 2 months. Now before I go to bed (after I check on her) I'm always wondering how she's sleeping just hoping that she didn't roll over (babies roll over at their own pace even as early as 2 months) or her swaddle blanket didn't go over her face making her not able to breath. You don't really think about these things until your there and your like, "Why this and why that." So go ahead and register for the video monitor!

  9. i plan on with video...i am a visual person and need to see whats gonig on! - sounds can play with your mind...you hear something and just imagine what it is - and of course being a new mom you will think of the worst thing to associate that sound to (i kno i will)

I would rather spend a little more for the visual confirmation of that weird noise rather than sit and worry WHAT COULD THAT SOUND BE!??!?!?   and then have to get up and go see anyways...which defeats the purpose of the monitor alltogether! HA!

but all in all its your choice, but for me...i have a wandering and scary imagination/mind. too many movies LOL

    GOOD LUCK IN CHOOSING!

  10. We always used one without - b/c we couldn't afford one with.  I think I would have liked one with video, but then, I would always be watching it - getting less sleep myself.  It's whatever you're going to feel more comfortable with - that's what you buy.

  11. As you know I am registered for the Angelcare Movement monitor. I wouldn't trade it for a video monitor any day. (mainly because the peice of mind) Not to mention I have heard awesome things about the angelcare monitor. For the money I prefer the movement monitor over ANY monitor. Video is nice... but not necessary I don't think. I think its more of a "luxury" rather than "necessity".

  12. sound is fine, but for my daughters baby shower 2 and a half years ago, i got a video monitor! i absolutley LOOOOVE IT! i got the summer infant one, and it works well. her bedroom was upstairs and so i loved the fact that i could see or hear her.

also another neat thing is that if you keep the recipt, if it goes out before the year is up then they send you a new one. i had that happen, so i had to go a week without the video monitor and it drove me nuts.

she is 2 now and i STILL use it. she moved to her toddler bed like 6 months ago and i loved being able to see if she got out of bed or not.

i say its worth it, but sound is also just fine.

  13. The sound alone worked for me, although admittedly, I didn't really need that. You'll be surprised how your ears adjust to motherhood. You can hear every little noise.

  14. I had one without, and I was perfectly happy.  To be honest, if I had the video, I'd probably sit there watching my daughter sleep and never get anything done!  LOL  You can hear quite well on the decent monitors, and I know as a first-time mom I had the habit of checking on my daughter fifty million times anyway.  I don't think having the video would have changed that.

  15. Sound would be just fine.   Video just adds that extra piece of mind, and its easier to see what your child is doing without going in there and risk waking them if they are asleep.  Have you considered the AngelCare monitor?  Its only sound, but comes with a pad you put underneath the mattress that detects breathing, and an alarm goes off if 15 seconds have passed with no breathing movements.  Helped me sleep better!

  16. It depends on your situation.  For the first 4 months or so we relied on a sound only mode and didn't need the video. Having video in the later months has been very helpful for us since he is now mobile and can get into trouble while a newborn really can't.  I would go with the sound only for now and then get one with video later if you think you need it.  You really won't know until yout baby is born.

  17. Personally I love my video monitor.  My mother babysits for me while I'm at work and she only has the sound monitor and when she goes in to check on my little one she wakes up and is very hard to put back down again.  To me it's worth it because at 3:00 when she cries I push the button, see what she's doing (usually she can't find her pacifier but does) and if it's something she doesn't need me for I can go back to sleep with no worries.  Good luck!
