Baby names for a mixed baby?

Question

MY DP and I are planning our first child and he/she will be half Chinese, half British White.

I am trying to think of some unique and original names that will represent the child's mixed heritage. Having said that I do quite like some flower names for a girl such as Lilly.

Any ideas are very welcome!!

i like Cho- its my friends name, it's chinese but it also sounds close to the british Jo, therefore integrating both.

Lilly is beautiful. DO you want a Chinese originated name, that can be used easily in Britain? I love the name Sakura, I think that's absolutely gorgeous, and also Sayuri and Sakura means "Cherry blossom" which is great becuase you also said you wanted a flower name!! I also like the name Suri, which is possibly persian and means red rose.

How about Yasmin, Ava,Abigail or Addison?

Tyler, Dovan, Devon, Christopher, Matthew?

You could consider giving them both a Chinese name and an Anglicised name (obviously only put one on the birth certificate). A know a lot of Chinese people who have Anglicised their names to come to the UK, so they have two names. Or perhaps a Chinese middle name with an English first name. Lilly is very nice.

I've heard the Niki appeals to both cultures. Consider that name. It essentially means "victory of the people". Or try Nico/Niko if you like punk music. Awesome singer.

Flower names are great. There's Flora, Ivy, Iris & Calla. Lily is becoming very popular as are it's more formal variants (Lilian, Lila), all share the nickname Lily though. It's a beautiful name so if you like it stick to it. There's also Fiorella ("flower" in Italian), Rosabella ("beautiful rose" in Italian) & Rose or Roza. Or you could combine a variety of these names: http://www.behindthename.com/nmc/chi.php to form a meaning/name you like. I've heard that's common in China.

To be honest I don't think names really reflect where a person comes from. I personally feel that a name is what you make it, so if there is a name you like use it, your child will bring pride to the name and to your heritage. With that said here are some names I like:

Well for me I have considered an English first name and a Chinese middle name. That's what my boyfriend has and he was born in Canada to Chinese parents..... but then again he can't even remember how to spell his middle name for certain so maybe that plan isn't so great lol. What about a pretty Chinese name like Meili which means beautiful and is easy to pronounce? I think it is a very pretty and unique (in the English world).

My Asian friends all have an English first name and an ethnic middle name. So my advice would be to pick out any name you like and have  a pretty Chinese name for the middle name.
