  1. There are very particular requirements for passport and visa photos, including the size of the photo, size of the facial image within the photo, and the face must be full-face with no shadows or anything obscuring the face or hairline.  On the passport application is a diagram showing exactly the sizes and proportions required.

Also, there must be a certain number of exact duplicates for passport and for any visas! This number will vary depending on where you are going and what visas you will need.

If your husband is a fashion photographer, he probably does not have the proper equipment to photograph four-up images of the exact size, which is why everybody goes to a "passport photo photographer."  If you are a member of AAA, they can help you quickly and easily!

  2. when I had my baby son's (5 months old) passport photo taken , I was quite worried as well, he could not stay still and smile at the camera.  So ended up with a photo of him with his tongue half way sticking out and semi winking.  Not to mention his little hand and arm was in the picture.  The told me that as long as the background was white and his face was facing the camera it would be okay.  And it was.  We now have that photo in his US passport.

Anyhow, if you have doubts and are applying at a post office, you can always have the picture retaken there.  For a fee, of course.

  3. The picture needs to be straight on and cannot have any shadows on the face, otherwise they won't accept it.
