lately for a while now actually her stool has been hard, actually like little balls or pebbles, they are also a very very light color, like a yellowish or mustard color.

last night however she was just straining so hard, she's fourteen months, so i put her on her potty and she was actually crying, so i lifted her up a bit and then she released.

i left her there a while longer, and when i got her up, just the color of the stool concerned me,

on one end its the yellowish color, then on the other end it becomes WHITE?!?!

also on it, was blood, and it looked like fresh blood.

Im not sure what to do,this is the first time for the blood, but her bowel movements have been that hard and color for about a month now.

i called her pedia who hopefully will fit us in tomorrow, (msg left)

but is there anything else i can do?

is there any otc something i can buy?

any advice?

  1. I'd give plenty of apples, water, maybe even prunes (my daughter has eaten them).  If that doesn't work may have to go see the Dr.

  2. constipation. try raisins or prunes they will work. or prune raisin baby food. but some of that sound very serious take her to the doctor right away blood in her stools is not a good sign!!!!!!!!!!!! call her doctor now.

  3. She sounds like she need more water and pedialyte!

Take her to the doc when you can to make sure its not something more serious.

  4. Poor baby, you need to increase the liquads and mabye think about what you have been feeding her. Some things might have caused her to get constipated. As everyone else said try prune juice and if that doesnt work have her eat some fruits. The blood may have been from her straing herself to go. Lots of liquads and fruist today and stop on some of the carbs if you give her any, bread, crackers, noodles, etc. See if anything changes by tommorow.

  5. Sounds like she is constipated.  Some prune juice or apple juice should help.  I don't know her age, but, if she is eating solid food, you could give her some prunes.  Just be sure they are cut in small bites.  When my son gets "pebble p**p", I give him 2 prunes and usually it is better by the end of the day.  Your doctor may tell you to give her some Miralax, which does work, but, I have found that prunes work just as well.

  6. Give her plenty of fluids and take her to the docots when you can.

  7. Sounds like she's constipated. Bowel movements that appear hard and have no moisture in them are classic signs of constipation in children. Try giving her some prune juice or white grape juice. There are also suppositories for children as well.

  8. Sounds like your baby needs more clear liquids during the day like water, fruit juice, jello, etc; more fruit like applesauce, fruit cocktail, yogurt; other soft diet items...mashed potatoes, instant oatmeal with raisins or fruit, etc.  She can still snack on dry cereal like cheerios, etc for a little more fiber.

The colors in her stool could be from different foods.  Black stools usually indicate blood so I think you are ok.  It may be best to keep a log when she has a stool and the consistency.  Report your findings to the doctor.

A small amound of blood (bright red) is common with any person that is constipated when passing a hard stool.  Constipation can happen when diets change.  During the summer we all need to increase the amount of fluids etc.  Keep in mind  vitamins with iron can also cause constipation as well as other factors your pedi can tell you about.

It is best for you to get her into the pediatrician.  I would definitely put her on a soft diet until then.
