my two month old daughter poops 8 to 12 times in a 24 hour time period since day one. my first night in the hospital from 3pm to 6am she poops 8 times! well my problem is sometimes she will p**p and ill change her then 10-15 mins later she will p**p again. friends tell me not to change her diaper right away cause she is not done and that is why she poops 15 mins later. in my opinion 15 mins in a dirty diaper is way to long, but then i spend like 100-120 $$$ a month in diapers and wipes. and i am for sure on a tight budget.

BTW: she is only breastfed with a couple 2-3 ounce bottles a week, we use enfamil nutramigien. i eat a dairy free diet, for we found out she is allergic to dairy(just like her brother he is now 3). the doctor was concerned about her pooping so much cause most of it looks like diarrhea, and took a stool sample but it came out fine. she has been gaining 2 lbs a month so far.

my questions are is it wrong to let them sit in a poopy for 15 mins, and what are other reasons she poops so much????

  1. I will second (third?) the suggestion of switching to cloth diapers, at least for at home.  For what you are spending on disposables in a month you can have enough cloth diapers to use for her for many months.  It means an extra couple loads of laundry a week, but it's so worth it.  We use cloth full time for my son, and love it.

  2. maybe you could try washable diapers for now but I have no idea for the p**p

  3. Would YOU want to sit in your own p**p for 15 min multiple times a day? That could add up to over an hour sitting in p**p. No way. Change your baby every time.

You need to see a pediatric gastro specialist if you are concerned about the constant bowel movements.

If you are going through 12 diapers in a day that is only 7 packs of diapers a month. For Huggies or Pampers that is less than $70 per month after sales tax. Add 2 wipes per diaper and you are still only at $80 a month. Perhaps you should consider changing where you shop. The only way diapers would cost that much is if you shop the convience store at full price.

  4. try pody training hope i helped answer mine http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...

  5. She needs to finish pooping before you change her, but don't let her sit in p**p for to long. She sounds healthy, but you may want a second opinion on her excessive pooping. She may have another allergy. People who are lactose intolerant or allergic to dairy are sometimes gluten intolerant or allergic to the proteins in some grains. Ask for a referral to an allergist.

  6. "Would YOU want to sit in your own p**p for 15 min multiple times a day? That could add up to over an hour sitting in p**p. No way. Change your baby every time."

    - No, but I also wouldn't enjoy sucking on my mother's nipples or being carried everywhere all day at this point in my life either.  I'm sorry, but I hate these responses.    (Why won't my baby sleep in her crib?  Would you like to sleep in a cage?  LOL)

Babies have different needs and likes than adult humans do.  It is just like anthropomorphizing animals and making decisions based upon what YOU would like in the situation.  It's not the same thing. Babies don't care unless they are uncomfortable or in pain.  What do you do when you get up in the middle of the night and find that they have pooped?  There are situations where babies sit in p**p.  That doesn't make you a bad mom.

I totally feel your pain on this one.  I am on a very tight budget and my baby poops at the very least 8 times a day.  Sometimes I really want to wait because I know she has more going.  And most of the time she will just barely poo.  I wait 5 minutes tops, but I would love to wait longer because, sure enough, she has more in her.

I say to wait a bit.  15 minutes shouldn't hurt.  If it does cause a rash, don't beat yourself up about it.  Treat the very first sign of it and cut back the amount of time you wait.

(BTW, my fiance doesn't agree with me.  His first 2 children had really sensitive skin.  Luckily, my baby doesn't have super sensitive skin.)

    Good Luck!

  7. Babies need changed every 1- 1 1/2 hrs.  She should be changed when she poops unless you want to be facing a big rash which will just make it worse. It may be something else in your diet that is causing it so you may want to see if you notice any connection.  I wouldn't' let her sit for 15 minutes in p**p though because that can cause a very nasty rash which would be just to painful for her.

Diapers are expensive I agree but it is necessary to do the changes.  Try buying the diapers that are cheaper like Walmart brand or something since you know you are changing so often.  I know my boys got the flu and I was changing diapers every 20-30 minutes for 2 weeks.

  8. A normal Breastfed baby can p**p anywhere from 8-12x a day and it always looks like diharrea.. all BF poo does. My girl pooed like this for a few months and then it regulated...sometimes she now goes a few days without pooing at all ...which is also NORMAL for BF babies.

Many peds don't have any experience with BFeeding which is why your doc had you do these useless tests. Look at Kellymom.com for lots about this subject. Your girl is PERFECTLY normal!

Breastfeeding is the BEST for her. If the diapers are killing you, you can 1. Order in bulk from diapers.com or 2. use cloth and wash them daily... but don't stop BFeeding!

  9. That sounds pretty normal for a young, breastfed baby.

I use cloth diapers. It's way cheaper!

  10. Every baby is different, every baby will use a different number of diapers a day.  If there are a lot of changing that and you noticed its because the baby poops within 10 to 15 minutes after the first change it might not hurt to wait a few extra minutes to change them.  I would let her sit for an extra 15 minutes to make sure she is done, unless she would start to show signs of diaper rash from letting her sit that long.  Call your doctor and talk to them about it, they would also be able to recommend something also.

  11. Its hard to not change a p**p diaper right away and I agree a 15 min time lapse is a 'new p**p' but I suggest seeing a digestive specialist. From the symptoms you listed it sounds like a bowel infection.

  12. this would be a great time to tap into the great resources called MOM and Grandma; or your mother in law and so forth.

believe me when I tell you this...

babys eat many times a day, so they p**p many times a day.

It still maybe loose and odd colored but if it smells different or if she is irritable and she has a rash call your doctor.

You can also call the city managment office, and ask if there is a church or charity in your area that offers the diapers and wipes for free.

You could start using cloth diapers, make your own wipes or start using a wash cloth on her bottom(as long as its clean) to cut costs. :) If you look hard enough you will find what you need. BTW, don't wait for her to cry about dirty pants  before you change her! This may make it harder for you to potty train latter on.

  13. No its not wrong... the only way it will harm the baby is if you leave her in it for over half an hour 45 minutes.

Give her Pedialyte. This might help her. Also if its too expensive, Dont change her RIGHT after she poops.. wait a bit... thats what i do with my son, i found if i changed him too quickly he would continue pooping in the clean diaper because he wasnt finished. And with the whole whip situation, if their too expensive, dont use them when she pee's.. i NEVER use them when my son pee's and he has never had a diaper rash since hes been born.

Hope this helps!!! Just stick it out. things will get better, i promise :)

  14. Use cloth diapers - the baby can't help how much she poops. Is it worth her getting a bad rash, or possible infection? If it is runny I wouldn't leave my kid in it. Breastfeeding is probably the cause of her runny p**p if the doctor says shes healthy, and every baby digests differently. If she isn't done going let her finish, but don't let her sit in it. I'm directing the answer towards your friends point of view, and suggesting cloth diapers in response to saving money.

  15. No it's not. If she's crying because of it then change her. You are spending too much money on diapers. She really isn't finished if she is pooping and the pooping again only 15 minutes later. Wait until she is finished and then change her. It saves you money.

  16. You might want to try cloth diapers...they are less expensive, and when you get a washer machine load full, it's economical to wash them.  When you are going out, you can use the disposable ones.

My daughter poops after I change her wet diaper.  I go thru maybe 8 diapers a day.

PS-Sometimes I'll be changing a poopy diaper, and it appears that she isn't done yet...so I'll wipe away the p**p and sort of wait for her to finish.  She doesn't seem to mind.  I sing songs and chat with her while she finishes!

  17. I agree with you on this, I think your doing the right thing changing her. My daughter does that sometimes too, she will p**p and about 15-20 minutes later she will p**p again. I understand that diapers and wipes are expensive! But she doesnt p**p that many times. Being breastfeed, they do p**p more than formula feed babies. But I would be concerned as well. Does cystic fibrosis run in your family? My husbands cousin has it and thats a sign of it. If it does run in your family, I would get her tested for that. Does she seem fussy before or after she poops? Since shes still peeing a good amount, shes definitely eating enough to keep her hydrated. Im sorry I dont have much more advice. Im sure its normal. Hope that helps somehow! :)

  18. you should buy cloth diapers for when youre at home.. then use disposable ones when you have to go out. then instead of buying so many disposable ones you could just wash em. :) plus its better for the environment. imagine all those diapers are in a landfill somehwere :(!
