I have two female rats, one is 11weeks old the other is 9 weeks old. Lately they seem to be fighting alot and one of them ends up sleeping outside nest. Is this normal in babies?

  1. yes normal they are babies so they (like every child) can be a little braty, but when they are older i'm sure they will be friends

  2. dominance

they aren't from the same litter so will proberally fight

be careful they aren't doing this over food aswell

they are better if they are from samel litter/ were bought at the same time

  3. My two hamsters fighted over their wheel when they were young, but they compromised. They both ran on it! So................ Just make sure they don't draw blood. If they do.................. you might want to separate them!

OH YEAH! my hamsters were brothers.. so they would feel guilty if they actually fought. They just like, punched each other in the stomach. It was pretty funny looking =)

  4. If you didnt use the split cage method then its a possibility that they are fighting. Just try to seperate then ASAP!!

  5. ummm...im not sure, they could be playing. matbe u can get 2 nests!

  6. The question is, are they really fighting? The general rule is "no blood, no foul". Dominance squabbles are not fighting. If they are not wounding each other or drawing blood they are just figuring out who is top rat.

They should not be separated or discouraged or they will never figure out who is top rat and will continue to have dominance scraps.

Signs of dominance squabbles: Chasing, humping, squeaking, power grooming.

Signs of serious fights: Hissing, puffing up, screaming, biting with the intent to injure.

  7. yeah its normal. they'll be buddies eventually. a good thing about rats as opposed to hamsters is they get along with eachother better and they wont fight with the same s*x like other rodents. but yes, the occasional brawl is normal
