Baby red-ear slider wont eat anything?

I bought a baby red ear slider yesterday, and I've yet to see him eat!

So far I've tried to feed it Reptomin pellets, little pieces of carrot, lettuce, and NOTHING?

Why won't it eat?

  1. Charlie's right about the vegetables. Small turtles, like small children, don't eat their veggies. The difference is that the turtles are smarter.

It is usual for a turtle to go off its feed upon being placed in a new home. Don't worry about it for a week or so. If the fasting continues, get a small, live earthworm and offer that. Once the turtle is eating, you can put live fishes (not goldfish) in the tank or feed soft-bodied insects, as well as earthworms. When you can't get live food, cut liver into strips and dust them with bonemeal.

  2. For starters, you are feeding it the wrong foods. In the wild, baby aquatics eat very little vegetation. They eat primarily aquatic invertebrates, and they scavenge larger animals, such as fish.

Feed it small earthworms, insects, and tiny minnows (which you may have to kill first).

It's diet will include more vegetation as it grows.

If it still won't eat, make sure that you are keeping it warm enough, and that the water isn't too deep.

You really should research proper care of this species.

  3. Do your research. Next time, before you buy an animal.

Break the pellets up. Try some Krill treats.

I have two RES and they are a lot of work.
