  1. J- the white fur molts off the babies within a few weeks, and that's when they're killed- at a coupla weeks old.  This seems okay to you?

As for the question- not really a question.  Nothing deserves to die or be killed. Death is simply a part of life- everything must eat.

But man is the only creature that kills what he does NOT need to survive.

  2. no they dont

  3. No....................and by the way iam a BC resident hunter.. i have a lisence and have been hunting for a few years.

I dont know all the details because i dont hunt seals and it sound like "j" doesnt either although he should

    > it sounds like these animals are beeing harvested solely for there hides which is immoral

    >when any other animal is harvested in BC yes we have the choice to shoot the best buck, elk, moose, etc with an amazing set of antlers, however we harvest the entire animal, all the meat is salvaged, its law

    >if we go way back to hunting and gathering ways this was how it was and iam aware we dont need to do that to survive anymore but if we use all the animal it isnt wrong.

  4. J, 300,000 baby harbor seals are killed in canada each year for their fur. they do not have white fur. they have better looking fur than the mature harbor seals do. 50 dollars per seal.

But I think, sinces theres millions more, and the population is still increasing every year, whats wrong with getting rid of a few now and then?? 50 bucks per seal?? im going to canada!!!

  5. I bet polar bears think so, since they are a large part of their diet! (You never said killed by or for what.) I know that will probably p**s people off, but it is the truth. Predation is a fact of life, and while I don't agree with killing something only for fur, if that species has a healthy population, regulated hunting won't hurt the population. If the population gets too big and there aren't enough resources, the babies will starve or get eaten anyway until the population gets back to a sustainable level. Do baby spiders deserve to die? I don't like spiders, and will kill them if I find them in my house, but unless they jump onto me outside, they are safe.

As long as human hunting doesn't adversely affect their population numbers, or those of the species above and below on the food chain, then we are just another predator, and there shouldn't be a problem. If there is a huge decrease in numbers, there is obviously too much human hunting. And about the clubbing over the head, I don't know if you eat meat or not, but you might want to check out how most animals are killed at slaughterhouses. It isn't much different in some countries, and don't think the USA is an exception.

  6. Of course not.  But it's worth asking if our concern is motivated mainly by their furry appearance and big eyes.  It's interesting that we worry more about the death of "cute" animals.  Do cows, pigs and chickens "deserve" to be killed?

  7. OF COURSE NOT!!!!!!!!!!

  8. Baby seals are not killed, only mature seals. Those cute babe seals with their cute white fur & big eyes have NOT been hunted for 25+ years. The seals that is hunted are seals that lost their white fur and on their own.The hunt is humane and and heavily regulated by goverment regulations.I agree not to kill all seals but have a quota on them. This is the hunt on east coast of Canada.

I hunt in the seal years ago and I DID NOT any kill white coat baby seals . I will never kill or allow to kill any baby seals........
