My older sister is pregnant with her first child who is due in October. Since my sister is living with my mom and I, she has selected me as the offical baby sitter for when he (the baby) is no longer an infant. I want to be a great aunt but i've never baby sat small children before. Are there any books I can get and what kind of tips should I pay most attention too?

If any parents could tell me what they would expect a baby sitter to do it would be much apreciated :)

  1. I was 14 when my older sister got pregnant. My sister ended up living with my mom and me when she had her baby. I, like you, was unfamiliar with watching or knowing what to do when it came to babies, toddlers, children, etc. Here's a tip: everyone has to start somewhere. I didn't know what to expect but I learned and my sister taught me a lot. I am now an aunt of two; 4 and a half niece, and a 1 year old nephew. My niece and I are very close and I spend almost every day with her because we don't live far apart. It's amazing how much I learned and will really help me with parenting. I think it all comes naturally and you will learn as you go. My baby nephew was born with a birth deffect (pierre robin syndrome). He had to get surgeries and I learned a lot. Don't sweat it.. you'll get it. Books may help and educate you, but the best way to learn is to just jump right in. Have your sister or your mother guide you. Best of luck.

  2. watch what your sister does as your living in the same house
