Baby solids for 4 month old?

My baby just turned 4 months old and watches me eat everything. Sometimes I let him suck a little bit of liquid cheese or sour cream off my finger. Is it possible he could be ready for solids? you know, the baby food in the jars.

Doctors recommend that you start cereals first, at 4-6 months, depending on if your baby's ready or not. You can go ahead and give him rice cereal.

I know what you mean. My baby is also 4 months old and she is already eating cereal. Her doctor told me to start her on something new (jar food) every week. Talk to your doctor every doctor is diff.

Yes. You can start now with cereal and put a little bit of baby food fruit in it to give it a better taste.  If you are eating something soft like mashed potatoes, it would hurt to let the baby have some. The baby knows something smells good and he or she wants some of it to. LOL!!

If you are strictly just nursing, you should wait until the baby is a little closer to 6 months.  If not, you should go ahead and start him on rice cereal.  The veggies and fruits shouldn't be started until around 6 months.  This is what my 4 children's doctor always told us, and it worked great for us.

Everything i have read states wait until 4 or 6 months depending on your baby's hunger. Starting solids too early can cause really bad allergies and also cause your child to an obese todler. Once a child starts eating solids they are no longer satisfied by formula and it's an never ending thing. You don't want your baby eating hotdogs at 7 months... just be careful.

i've heard that 4-6 months is fine... however new studies have shown that wating until 6 months is better because. if solids are started too soon your baby may or may not develope allergies to that food. this is the latest i've heard. my niece was started too early and had a bad reaction to jared bananas... hope this helps! oh, however you can safely get away with starting with rice ceral first!!! good luck!
