  1. Most baby stores at which you can set up a registry will provide you with a list.  Of course, they include items that aren't really necessary (like wipes warmers, etc.) but they are a decent start.

  2. the basic needs:

    somewhere to sleep :

    either in bed with parents

    or in a cot/crib/moses basket/bassinet

    something to eat:

    either breast milk or formula.

if you choose formula you will need one tin of formula (to make sure it's one that works for your baby) bottles, newborn teats, sterilizer, bottle cleaning brush.

if you choose breast milk you will need some breast cream and some breast/nursing pads.

    something to wear:

buy 3 outfits in each of the newborn sizes. You never know what length and size baby will be until they are born, better to have some of each size so they don't have to wait for someone to go to the shops for more supplies. Get a warm outfit, a cooler weather outfit and a sleep outfit. And get a few singlets and socks in each size too.

something to use as a nappy/diaper:

    its either cloth or disposables.

    if cloth you will need:

cloth diapers and lots of them

    a soaking bucket

    soaking agent

    baby safe detergent

    diaper liners

    baby wipes

    nappy pins or snappy-nappy.

if using disposables you will need:

one new born box of disposables (don't buy too many as baby might have an allergic reaction to them, or they might be the wrong size)

    baby wipes

a bin to throw the used ones in.

something for baby's skin and hair:

    rubbing alcohol (for umbilical cord)

    soap-free bath gel

    baby shampoo

    baby lotion

    nappy/diaper cream

    something to transport baby with:

pram/stoller with lay down option (new borns need to be flat)

    a car seat

other then that...  there are millions and millions of gizzmos and gadgets you could buy for baby that aren't essential. for example: baby monitors, swings, bouncer seats, play mats, mobiles, baby furniture, a rocking chair to sit and feed baby on,  his/her own cd player and relaxing music collection.. the list goes on and on and on...

  3. google

and please don't use nursery water...

  4. babies r us has a list on their website of recommended things...so you will need and some you can wait on for awhile

  5. I bought the book Baby Bargains and used it as a guide. The book was good at telling you what to spend money on and what you probably don't need or don't need to make a huge investment in. It also rates different brands.

  6. car seat

head thing for the car seat to make sure the babys head doesn't fly around

    diapers

    wipes

    powder

    lotion

    towels

    wash clothes

    alcohol wipes for the cord

    blankets

    burp cloths

    cradle or bassinet

    bottles if formula feeding

    if your breast feeding:

    breast pump

    breast pads

    breastfeeding pillow

  7. I'm due any day now and I have organized the following items:

bassinett to be in the bedroom

2 packs of "newborn" size diapers and sensitive skin wipes

rubbing alcohol if doctor recommends putting it on cord stump

    receiving blankets

    cloth "spit up" diapers

    cotton hats and booties

cotton hand mits to prevent baby scratching himself

    ear termometer

    nasal bulb

    extra soft baby washcloths

    baby swing

    boppy nursing pillow

dye-free laundry detergent/softner (I also pre-washed everything for the baby)

I also made sure to have enough of all MY stuff (toothpaste, toilet paper, conditioner, etc. so that I don't run out while I'm "house bound" with a newborn)

    Hope this helps.  Good luck.

  8. normal things like pp said, somewhere to sleep, clothes, diapers, a lot of receving blankets you can use for spitting up!

q-tips, cottonballs and rubbing alcohol for cleaning the cord

bottles if you are bottle feeding, a bottle brush nursery water (if you dont want to boil water)

a lot of formula (if not breatfeeding) you will go through a lot!

some kind of gas drops for new born

a new born tub, baby bath, towel, washcloths

make sure you have infant tylenol on hand

a nose aspriator to get boogies, i used q-tips carefully for that

a thermometer (the hospital might give you the one they used)

i cant think of anything else! Good luck!

dont forget about yourself too!  i did crossword puzzles a lot, they sleep a lot and usually YOU cant!  so get some magazines or something you enjoy.

  9. Babies r Us has a list online you can look at, but it really is better to talk to friends who have babies because sometimes they list things you really wont use. For instance I didn't use a bathtub at first, I used that foam yellow pad so the umblicle cord didn't get wet.  And I didn't use onsies, I prefered the nightgowns with the string or elastic at the bottom because they were easier to change the diaper.

  10. There is a list in what to expect when you're expecting. You could also just find a list on the internet somewhere. There are all kinds of sites for things like that. web MD has a great list of things to get. I just typed in things to buy for baby and it came up.

  11. Just the basic things like crib or bassinet which ever one you are gonna use. bottles, clothes, blankets by a pack of pamper but dont over do it because i bought a lot of cheap packs of diapers and my baby girl was allergic so had to return them and buy huggies so just buy one pack that way you know.
