Question:

Baby wearing? A couple of questions for anyone who has any advice or experience with the Maya Wraps?

I'd love to hear *anything* you have to say about a Maya wrap, or any other baby wearing accessory. I'm due this fall with my first baby and we're having a baby boom in my family so I was hoping to make several wraps similar to what the Maya wrap looks like for when the babies arrive or possibly for Christmas. My two specific questions are this-

Are the two rings sewn into place?

If you have one of the padded Maya wraps, how is the padding attached? Is it sewn into both sides or does it go through the rings down both sides?

Thanks for any answers and/or advice! And wish me luck lol

  1. I prefer the wrap carriers-moby has a good one and they're very easy to make yourself. Don't skimp on fabric though, you'll need at least 5 yards and make sure it's stretchy!

  2. Do you mean the ring sling by Maya?

    Edited to add:

I can't use slings because of a neck problem.  Some slings have the ring sewn in, but most do not (I am pretty sure).

I like the "Asian Baby Carrier" aka ABC aka Mei Tei for ease of use and in the heat

The wrap is really the most versatile though, but it is the hardest to master.

You can sew an ABC or use the no sew pattern.  Wraps are of course just very large pieces of cloth and can be hemmed / serged or not depending on the fabric and how fussy you are about appearances.
