Baby weight loss, walking and learning to run?

My son is 15mths old, and is very big for his age (his size rivals alot of 2-3yo's).. he's been walking since 13.5mths and recently had a doctor's appointment where we found out he's lost 3lbs since learning to walk. He's very healthy, and is just growing up (as opposed to outwards) I'm just wondering how much can I expect him to lose, and what should I expect his body to do in order to deal with this? I'm not sure what clothes to buy him, because his chubby leg rolls are disappearing lol and he's getting taller.. how long do they normally take to level out with their weight? or is it constant til they are school age? how many growth spurts should I expect within the next 6mths-1year. what were other parents' experiences with growth spurts and weight changes after learning to walk.

  1. my son was a very big baby too before he learnt how to walk.....he went form weighing 36 punds at 1 docs appoitment to weighing 32 punds at the next and that was only a month appart....my doc told me thathe is healthy and everything is fine that this will happen.....it freaked me out too.....but it happens...

  2. My daughter's the same way. She was up in the 30's somewhere, but at 19 months has evened out to 29 lbs.  She's also 34 inches tall, so she's at 97% for both height and weight. We started buying her a bunch of 3T cause she has a potbelly, and we've just stuck with it. But since she has shrunk a little bit, she'll probably fit into some of the 24 months stuff again this winter, I'll be amazed and happy if I don't have to replenish her entire wardrobe again like I had to last year, lol. So we buy 3t and if it's a little big, it's alright, she'll grow into it. My rule about clothes with very few exceptions(shoes and coat) is that if I can find a similar item in my size for less, she doesn't need it. I refuse to pay 12.96 for a pair of jeans when I can get mine, which take a lot more material, for 10 bucks. I always buy on clearance at wal-mart, going 2 or 3T, usually I can find stuff for no more than 2.50 a piece, frequently for 1.00.  If it's long sleeved and we need it for the summer, I cut and hem the sleeves, and we use it anyways. Saves a ton of money, I'm just hoping she fits into her footie pj's again this winter, that's always an expense in cold weather. Good luck!
