Do the playtex bottles with the drop in liners really help in reducing gas?

I currently use the Avent bottles which are supposed to help with colic but I don't see a difference and I think they might be the bottles with BPA in them. I didn't know that until I was doing some research today.

Also, are the regular Avent bottles (not the ones with the liners) the ones with BPA??

  1. I loved the Playtex with Drop-Ins.  i never had issues with a gassy baby.  They are BPA free too.

  2. I wish i would have tried the playtex with liners for my oldest two...I used them with my youngest and now only use them exclusively for my daycare babies.  You can "burp" the air out and they really are convenient!!

You may have to play with the nipples a Little there are a ton of options from type, shape, and flow....every baby is different

If you are still having trouble with gas you can put a couple of drops of Mylecon gas drops into the bottle and this will work wonders on the mood of your baby.

  3. THey used to have bpa. It says right on the package if they are bpa free. If they were bought before taking the old ones off the shelf you should change your bottles.  I know it's not very convenient money wise but medical bills would be much more expensive.

And yes, playtex bottles really do help gas.  My son had terrible gas and I switched to Playtex when he was 7 weeks.  We haven't seen a problem since.  And he's only gotten hiccups once since.  They are really inexpensive and so easy to clean.

  4. You might want to make sure your baby actually has colic and not reflux.  Oftentimes dr's call something colic when they don't really know what causes it.  My daughter actually had GERD (reflux) and she was one of the few (about 10%) that didn't spit up.  because it went undiagnosed for so long she now (at age 3) still has reflux and has problems with asthma because the reflux was aspirating into her lungs.  Check out this website - if it really is reflux you'll want to try some pointers to help out reflux rather than just colic.  If it doesn't seem to be reflux, try Mylicon drops if you haven't tried them yet, my kids really responded to those.  Otherwise, I can't offer any advice on the bottles, sorry!... but remember, not all babies with reflux have problems spitting up...

  5. i use avent and ANYTHING with plastic has BPA just try to avoid sticking them in the microwave i've used avent bottles since the week after my baby was born and she has never had colic are you sure its not the formula it could be hurting your babies belly as well.. the reverse happened to me i used the playtex with the drop in and my baby wanted nothing ot do with them . mix your formula in a glass or other non plastic container if your worried about BPA then after its mixed and warmed pour it in the nipples on avent and playtex are TOTALLY different just maybe make sure your using the right size nipple and burping her lots even ever 1-2ounces if need be

  6. I use the playtex with the not the drop in liners but the other ones that you  put in yourself. My daughter had gas like most babies but not excessive and she wasn't colic at all. But when you drink out of those liners they close up on themselves so there is no air coming out with the milk when the baby feeds.

  7. We use the Dr. Browns wide neck and that really seemed to help my daughter!. It maybe a pain to clean because it comes with the tubs but its all dish washer safe so we run the dish washer every night and that saves us big time. Plus they just made a BPA free kind so even better.

It might not just be the bottle. Some babies have gas issues. Don't be afraid to put mylicon in the bottle or even gripe water. I find that mylicon works best! Just put the recommend amount in the formula or breast milk and the baby will find relief. Good luck!
