  1. My favorite toy gift was the Flutterbye Dreams Deluxe Gym.  My son loved that toy for so long, I was sad to give it up once he was too big.  Another friend bought me a pack and play and travel set that matched from a yard sale. This was a surprisingly good gift-- tons of use out of that.  My little one is about to turn two, and those are the main gifts I remember specifically, as in, I remember who gave them and I remember enjoying them for a long, happy time.  The gift I wish I had gotten (but didn't, and have since bought), is the "Your Baby Can Read" set from Usborne books.  WOW... My son can read several words, and his vocabulary has increased an incredible amount since we bought it.

    Good luck!

  2. I didnt get any burping rags at my shower and you need lots of those. Also you can make a daiper cake with clothe daipers which can be used for burp rags those are the best. I had one made outa plastic diapers and it was great but clothes one you can use more. I love my bouncy seat. I also didnt get any bottles. I loved the Got Milk stuff I got it was so cute. A moble for the crib, something to take the babys temp, The toy that goes on the car seat is wonderful, it sings and flashes and all babys would enjoy it. I wish I would have gotten more toys for a younger baby. My little girl is 3mo and ever since I brought her home she loves laying under the toys that sing and move. Now she can play with them. But they were nice. It gives you al ittle break and the little one is entertained. Picture frames too. You will never have enough. And a photo album. If its the first they are going to take alot of pictures and need a place to put them. Also a gift cert for food and to develop ppics would be great those are both things that will be happening alot. I am trying to think of everything that I thought. I just went through this. Good luck to ya!

  3. Depending on how much you want to spend, my most useful gift was my stroller/car seat. Boppies are awesome!  Baby swings and bouncy seats are also very helpful, as well as pack-n-plays. Diaper Genies are good, and I also loved my video monitor.

  4. We didn't register for a bouncy chair (it vibrates too) because I thought we wouldn't need or use it. Boy were WE wrong! We used it A LOT! She had acid reflux for a while so she slept in it at night for a while. For when they are on cereal & veggies & fruits you might want to get vinyl bibs because it's 10 times easier to just wipe it off the bib rather than keep washing bibs all the time. Those are a big help as well.

  5. if no one has bought it, i would suggest a 'snuzzler'; you can get them at babies r us and they are great for a little nb in an infant seat...my gal is almost 3 mos; she is petite but she still needs the extra support.....i do like the idea of a nice basket (we got one at my shower and now it holds all her little baby toys!) with maybe a towel/washcloth set, frag and dye free baby wash, some desitin or zinc oxide for diaper rash, baby tylenol and mylicon, a thermometer, etc...most ppl don't think to get the meds, and my gal had her first tooth at ten weeks on the day so we needed the tylenol, plus we needed it for her shots, and the mylicon we used even before that...maybe put a couple of really nice soft blankets in the bottom, most ppl will probably get receiving blankets...and a gift card, sounds boring, but it is great too!! then mom can get whatever she needs after the shower...maybe a gift cert for a  photography session for the family and their new addition....if you do the basket, throw in some soothie passys, look funny, but are the ONLY thing my gal would take....and put in something for mom, maybe a nice bath sponge, salts, bubble bath, etc..someone did that for me and it was nice to think that she thought of me too! a baby bjorn with lumbar support is great too! doubt anybody else will get that! bumpkin bibs are a little big, but they are super...my gal is a spitterrrrrrrr, so she's small, but i bought those bc of the amt of stuff we were trying to contain, and the little pocket actually has a pleat (only ones i saw like that) that opens up to catch stuff rather than just lying there, they are light, waterproof, easy to clean and dry quickly....a great baby monitor..i think ours is graco imonitor and i can hear everything..even my dog snoring..LOL; hope something in here helped....

you could get them a baby clothes hamper that matches their baby room and fill it with clothes, frag and dye free laundry detergent, towels, socks, mittens, and such, maybe some diff sizes since most ppl will buy nb or 0-3; just make sure that the size will be season appropriate regardless of whether it is a little babe or a big one...i am trying hard, LOL!!! good luck!!

  6. We had a friend give us a beautiful piggy bank from Tiffany's. It really sticks out in my mind. It's something that would be well appreciated! Also a bouncy seat! they are amazing!!!

  7. What I do for a baby shower is I go out and buy an "emergency kit" for baby.   In it I put gas relief drops, baby tylenol, a medicine pacifier, a thermometer, a travel size bottle of shampoo and baby lotion, a wash cloth, small package of baby wipes and diaper rash cream.  I put all of this into a baby bathtub along with the usual pack of diapers and maybe an outfit or two (not in the bathtub though).  It goes over really well, especially for first time Mommy's that don't know to think about having these kinds of things on hand.  You will save them a trip to the drug store at 1am when baby is full of gas!  Hope i helped.  Good luck!

  8. Receiving Blankets!!! You can never have too many of them.  Also my baby's swing was a God Send.

  9. i use my floppy seat all the time and i have with both babies.

  10. give something special. like if ur creative give a handmade quilt. or knit a blanket. or make a scrapbook and fill all the pages like first bath first haircut etc and have it so all the  mom has to do is add their pics as time comes. new moms never have time to scrapbook and this way they can store memories. or photoshop app for computer etc so they have ways to edit/take or print photos.

or u could get something for mom like a day at the spa. or a foot massager. she will need something to help her relax and unwind

  11. The baby sling...is great.

Laundry baskets filled with green safe cleaners and dreft soap.

(green safe products you can get at Walmart and they help so babies are less likely to get allergies from fragrances and harsh products that harm lungs)

I am like you on blowing people away. Even when I bring a small gift i make sure it is wrapped very fancy or cute.

  12. ooh ohh i just had my baby shower and the most amazing gift ever was a laundry basket that had a pink clothes line in it. pinned to the whole clothes line was like 10 onsies socks, mittens, a couple cute lil outfits, a bathing suit, sunglasses and a few gowns and sleepers. also some purp clothes and a few baby towels and wash cloths. it was the cutest thing i ever saw in my life. and all that stuff will be used. the girls that made this even went through the trouble to add clothes for different seasons in the right size. it was truelly the best gift ever.

they pinned the clothes to the line, then folded the line up inside the basket. they tied a pink ribbon around the basket and put a really cute fleece blanket on top. im definatly going to copy this gift for my next baby shower gift!

  13. Things people sometimes overlook, such as nail clippers, carseat mirror thing, a baby carrier. But diapers are best, but buy a size 2-3 so that they have room to grow into because most people buy the small ones.

Also gift cards to places to eat, because your don't feel like cooking those first few weeks lol.

  14. Christina, I'm totally with you!  I didn't register for a bouncy seat with vibrations.  Fortunately, my wise cousin (and my baby's namesake) bought me one anyway.  She loves it and I don't feel bad putting her in it so I can get a little bit of cleaning done.  My little Sally is also gassy and likes to sit up more than laying down.  She naps better in the seat than her crib!

    Other gifts I love:

Anyone who bought accessories to my bedding (it really brought the room together)

Long-sleeved infant sleep gowns with the elastic at the bottom (she sleeps so much better in them!)
