how many of you working moms have a "nanny" or babysitter come to your home and watch your children while your working? do you prefer this to daycare?

i just found out i am pregnant with #2 and honestly can not afford childcare for 2. i am unsure what to do yet and trying to consider all my options.

any advice or suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated.

  1. Do you have any family nearby who might be able to help you?  You're right, childcare sometimes costs so much that it's actually cheaper for one parent to stay home and just live on the other parent's salary.  If you have family who would watch the kids sometimes during the week, maybe your employer could arrange flexible hours for you, or some work-from-home days.  I hope it works out for you, and congratulations on your new little one!

  2. My daughter has Down Syndrome and is 17.  I choose not to leave her alone to much when I am at work.  I have a person come to the house bc my dtr functions better in her own enviroment.

Ideally, if you could.  Stay home with the kids while they are still young.  I know in some situations that is not an option.  I was fortunate enough to be able to stay home with the girls until my youngest was 10.

Weigh the pros and cons.  They could also strn the house etc while the kids are napping, but at nurseryu are getting age appropriate activites etc.  Is a toughy.  gl

  3. Personally just because I like kids and have grown up with them I think it is easier to have someone come and babysit your kids I know that is what I would do but I would pick someone you know and can trust. I am 16 and have been babysitting for 6 years and work at a daycare part time. It si just easier to have someone come and watch your kids and it coast alot less.
