Question:

Babysitter rates? (SF east bay area)

I find so many conflicting answers online... it seems like babysitter rates really vary greatly. Since we've never had one before, I want to know if we're OK with offering $10/hour bridge toll for a babysitter to come and watch our 6 and 4 year olds. The kids are pretty self-sufficient, and will go to bed about halfway through (this will be five hours starting at 6:30). We are in the San Francisco east bay.

Does this sound right? are we being cheap or spendthrift?

  1. No, that's reasonable. If you look at babysitter.com you will see that they will charge anywhere from $10-15/hr and if the kids are pretty much self sufficient, that's fine. If you are also providing bridge toll that's a plus.

  2. I think it's reasonable price. Usually I get paid $5.00 an hour, but I live in the midwest where apparently we have cheaper rates! You could also discuss it with the babysitter and see what she/he thinks, or with a couple of your friends who get babysitters.

    Hope I helped!*

  3. I think if it is a teenager that you are offering that kind of money to it is more than fair. They aren't licensed so you are good at least that is my opinion.
