If I babysit, how do I claim the income?

I want to earn work credit for my retirement social security and disability.

My estimated income would be around $20,000 per year.

Thanks for all who answered. This is my first yahoo post.

  1. Ask your clients to pay you by check.

Note, I said clients, this is assuming you babysit in your home.

If you babysit in THEIR home, they give you a W-2.

  2. Report it on Schedule C.  You can deduct any ordinary and necessary expenses from the gross amount.  You will also need to file Schedule SE to report the self-employment income and calculate the social security and medicare tax due on your net income from self-employment.
