I want to babysit I am 13 and soon will be 14 and I will take a red cross class. But my mom says that babysitting only pays 2-4 dollars an hour. But when I look up the rate for our state (Ohio) it said 9$ an hour. I showed her and she says thats crazy that people would pay that much. So what is the estimite per hour for babysitting?

  1. well some parents pay more if your certified..

so i would say the norm is 5-8 bucks.. but it also depends on who your babysitting for.

  2. Well when I was younger, my old sitter charged like $8 an hour, but she charged that when she was like 16 to like 20, and that was for like my brother and I when we were younger.  I think it really depends on your experience, and the actual people you are sitting for, and other things like that. Try checking out like some sort of babysitting website, and see if it says anything. Hope I helped!

  3. Eh, if you charge $2 per hour the parents would be taking advantage of you. Charge $5-$7 because you will be certified soon. Prove to the parent you are worth that, ask your mom if she would work for $2 an hour!

  4. well i live in new jersey and we usually get $5-$8 an hour...2-4 is really low!!

  5. When I used to babysit I would get paid at least $10 an hour.  I live in CA though, but it was also a few years ago

  6. I wouldn't pay a 13 year old $9 an hour.  I probably wouldn't have a 13 year old babysit period.

If you are interested in babysitting as you get older, look into classes and becoming certified in CPR.

  7. I get $7 an hour for babysitting two little boys age 5 and 8.

This is something you need to negotiate with the parents of the children you are babysitting

  8. Hey i just go the August '08 seventeen and it says that in ohio the rate is 9 per hour but i rearely get a job i charge 3 an hour per kid 2 for older like 8-10 and 4 or 5 for little like 0-4 but 5-7 are about 3

  9. I don't pay by the hour, I usually pay $30-50 for an evening depending on what the sitter would have to do (like meals or bedtime) and how long we are gone.

  10. normally you set your own rates.

i would NEVER babysit any child for 2-4 bucks an hour.

    maybe 5-8 bucks!

  11. i don't think that u should set the rates. Let the parents do that

  12. I usually pay $5 hr for up to two kids.

  13. You are correct. I was a nanny for a couple in ohio and I really got ripped off, she only wanted to pay $3.00 an hour per child for a 2 year old and an 5 year old. You should get paid at least minium wage. With your age you might not get paid as much, but I would ask for it. The daycares in ohio charge alot. I know a lady who was paying $320 for a daycare for her kids. So, at least ask minium wage, no less.

    That was $320 a week.
