Babysitting activity ideas or games?

I babysit 2 kids, a boy in grade one and a girl in grade 4. I babysit them twice or three times a week, and I'm running out of ideas. Any suggestions?

  1. Have a scavenger hunt!!

My daughter and her friends went nuts over this game.

I made a few picture clues. You can draw them or print them out.

Hide the same number of objects for each kid and then hand each child a clue for each object. They'll compete to see who can find them all first.

Make the clues and hiding places for the younger one easy and the clues for the older child more difficult.

You can also bake. Kids love cooking.  Make something really easy, like Irish potatoes, faces made of fruit or good old fashioned cookies.

Another good idea is face painting. Just make sure you have some old T-shirts to use as smocks.

We like to make jewelry with beads sometimes.

Having a story hour before bed is fun too. You would start a story and then let each child take turns continuing the story. They make it up as they go along and anything goes.

Sidewalk chalk keeps my 7 year old busy for almost an hour. I hand it to her and off she goes. Bubbles are good for that too.

    Good luck  and have fun.

  2. You still have cards and games.  Make some cookies or bake a cake and let them help you.  We have a few nice days coming and walks or go to the store.  Rent some movies for their age.  Think of odd things to do.  Right now weather is a factor and it seems the parents are pretty strict.   You'll have to work around the rules.  Whats approved and whats not.

  3. when i used to babysit all the time i would have theme days like every Wed. would be fiesta day i would make Mexican food like quesadilla and make our own pinatas (out of paper and tape)

or thursday would be circus day and we would do face painting with water colors and plastic bibs, and do high wire contests (put a rope on the floor and see who can get across without touching the carpet or falling off the rope)

or another one was detective day, and i dressed them up like detectives and hid stuff around the house while they were at school with clues in each place like a card that said im hiding in a cold area thats larger than your hand (fridge) and there would be another note....not too many so they dont get bored and have a candy or something cool for the prize....

  4. DONT PLAY HIDE AND SEEK! think of arts and crafts to do...especially drawing :) kids need to express themselves

  5. Board games are cool, but simple ones, and if they change the rules, try to politly correct them. If they ignore you, let them go for it, at least they are doing something. I always find s****. Doo a big hit, or Kim Possible. Plus, playing games like dragons and princesses are fun. Oh, and don't forget computer games!!!!!

  6. If you are not able to watch TV or go on the computer then maybe going outside would help. You could play tag or an extreme game of hide-n'-seek (meaning anything counts). Or if that isn't working then you could take them on a walk, maybe get them ice-cream. And for things inside maybe you could sit down and play a game where one person says something and then people add on to it until you decide to make a new sentence. That game is always fun for kids.

  7. play outside alot like tag or something. my kids are just little hyper bullets that run around all day, so they love playing outside. they dont really like doing crafts tho, they cant sit still very long, just like there dad. they are always active so we are always tasking them to the park
