Ok so tomorrow I've got 8 hours of babysitting a 8 year old and his 6 year old brother. We have a trampoline in my backyard next door that they want to use, but we can't do that all day, plus it will get too hot out. We aren't allowed to use my pool, so are there any creative games anybody knows of that we can play that will be fun and will give us some exercise? Inside or outside games will do.

Also, anyboy know of some refreshing healthy snacks I can make them?

  1. hooky pooky, there are all kinds of singing songs you can do.

bugs on a log are easy and good. you use celery sticks and put peanut butter in the groove of the celery and then put raisins on the peanut butter.

tag is a good game or see who can run the fastest, time them and see if they can improve their time.

  2. Hello Fellow Babysitter!!!

Don't worry! You still have plenty of options to keep them occupied. Try playing i-spy upside down on a couch, put on a skit, put on music and dance crazily to it, freeze tag where you "freeze" them with an ice cube if it gets to hot outside, watch a movie and re-enact it casting yourselves as the stars:), house of course, start a scavenger hunt where you walk to houses in your neighborhood, outside volleyball with a balloon, and the net it a sheet draped across a line, get out pots and pans and start your own band, just keep them active!!

As for snacks, try homemade smoothies with frozen fruit, ice, and fruit juice! kids love a sweet drink, but there's not a ton of sugar like sodas or kool-aid. Or, cut up fruits and veggies with tasty dip. For dessert, take something healthy, like peanut butter cookies, and make an ice-cream sandwhich with ice cream smooshed in the middle!

Hopefully these ideas will get you started! Good Luck and have fun!!!

  3. make apples with peanut butter and some mini marshmellows =P or you can put peanut butter in celery sticks and put some raisins on top

  4. Playing outside is a great way for the kids to get some exercise, so just find a bunch of toys and hang out in the yard. I was babysitting yesterday, and the children and I played soccer, basketball, "golf", and raced bikes. (By bikes, I mean the little ones for toddlers. I couldn't fit on one, haha!) You might need to adjust some of the sports' rules; little ones aren't the best at following them to a T. Be sure you include both kids when your playing, which will make them happy and eager to exercise. If you get tired of being outside, go indoors and watch TV or read a book. Crayons and paper will also entertain a little kid for a while. Do your best to keep everyone entertained! Ask the parents if they have any suggestions. This can be helpful for snacks, too, because you don't want to feed kids anything the parents wouldn't allow. Most of the time you can make typical snacks with whatever is in the refrigerator. Try PB&J sandwiches, cheese and crackers, fruit snacks, or popsicles. By the way, I'm sure you know this, but keep any liquid or messy food other than water in the kitchen at all times. Just last week a 4 year old I was watching spilled chocolate milk on the carpet, and the parents were home at the time. So, the less-messy the food is, the better!

Exercise: sports, taking a walk, running around in sprinklers, flying kites, the park, outside chalk...(I don't reccomend water balloons, the scraps can be messy!)

Food: fruit, cheese, cookies, juice, mini sandwiches, jello...

You can find more tips/ideas if you search for them on google. There are bound to be plenty of babysitter websites that contain interesting ideas.

  5. are you allowed to use a sprinkler? maybe run around in the sprinkler if you have one?

you can serve them some cold fruit and vegetables (carrots, celery, apples, pineapples) or some yogurt if they are allowed to eat yogurt

  6. Follow the leader and Simon says are great for indoor activity. My kids love one that is I tell them crab walk across the room and hop like a kangaroo back. And go on and on until you are out of ideas, it does not have to be animals, I say dance like a rock star etc. I have 2 girls ages 7 and 9 and they love these. I have also read in a magazine set up an indoor obstacle coarse, like jumping over a pillow or various things. Pillows can be slippery though, we have some  that every time you step on them you go skating, I love watching my husband when he steps on one LOL.

My kids also LOVE board/card games, but again that could just be a girl thing.

For outdoor water balloons are great, just make sure they clean up all the little pieces and do not get to mean with the aiming. My girls have my aim so they generally miss one another LOL but they have soo much fun anyway.

  7. I have a younger brother who loves to color and make things for mom. Try hands on stuff. Also trampolines can be very dangerous for younger kids. They could fall into the spring or get to high and fall on their back.  Trampolines are not a great play thing for 6 and 8 year olds. For snacks try apples and for something sweet try strawberry’s and sugar, or make a fruit smoothie.
