Babysitting a friends 7 year old twins?

Hello, my question is and I'd like to be fair. My friend has two 7 year old twins. Understand she will use you dry if possible. Everything is a favor this a favor that. Now I need to know what is feasible rate of after school per hour for each child or both together please let me know which your referring to. And what would you charge for twins for a full 10 hour day. I live in New Jersey in middlesex and would like to know what you guys think would be fair. Because her sister said give her $50 bucks; I am a little disturbed with that number and insulted!!!!

Her sister was referring to the whole week!

  1. I'm from a large metropolitan area, and we paid $12/hour for babysitting for our twins.  That was when they were babies.  They are 8 now, and I would expect to pay 10-12/hour.  So 100/day and 500/week is not out of line, at least around here.

Ask around where you live, and see what people pay.  You'll get a better idea.  For sure, $50/week is way too little. Don't be afraid to say that you just can't do it.  There's nothing wrong with that.  Since she's a friend, you could charge a little less, but you have to consider what you will be giving up to do this.  Your time is definitely worth something.

  2. why don't you say "no" when asked?

  3. im from the sf bay area and i usually charge $10/hour for one kid and if its more than one family i charge more. also if the twins are boys you should charge more because thats harder.

  4. i would say if it is a 40 hour week 125 is about normal. If you are doing it at your house or close to home. If gas is an issue i would bump it to 135-150. Depending on how far you have to drive.

As for an hourly fee i would say any where from 4-6$ and hour. Depending on how many and depending on if you have both or not.

I am a full time nanny right now and that would be my asking price for starting out...

  5. Well, if it is your "sister" who you are watching for, it is more of a "thank you so much for your help, I want to give you something" If it isn't a relative and it a "job"  then, I would say about $4.00 an hour.  that would be $40.00 a day, not 50.00 for the whole week.  When we babysit for "friends" and you stated she needs "favors"  it is going to be your call.  She knows what she can afford, and you kinda know her situation.  A true friend does do favors....and you will have to make the decision on how much you would like to help her and her children.  It is a tough world out there :)  Hopefully she would do the same for you.
