  1. Take control of the situation. Turn the playstation OFF. Tell them very firmly to go to bed NOW and if they don't you'll call their stepdad to come home and tell them himself. I would just leave the girls if I were you, they'll go to sleep eventually. At least they won't be talking to each other if you've separated them.

  2. Unplug the playstation and tell them that they have to go to bed. Take them by the hand and move them to bed. Tell the girls if you hear them again then you will confiscate something that they really like (mobile phone, dvds, tv etc)

call their step dad and tell him that you are going to walk out soon because they wont behave. he will definetly do something.

  3. I do a fair bit of babysitting - children from birth to 12 years. Giving them different bedtimes if they don't already have them might help - get the younger ones to sleep whilst the older ones are occupied downstairs. Set clear boundaries and don't threaten to do something if you can't/won't follow through - or they'll know they can get around you. With the playstation, say how long they have left, then tell them when it's time to turn it off, and turn it off yourself if they won't. It's usually best to reward good behavior, so if they do as they're told, reward them somehow. Routines usually work too. I often let the children I babysit have some time to read or look at a book in bed - it helps them chill out and get to sleep easier.

  4. Completely ignore them, don't look at them or acknowledge them at all. The older ones should know better.

  5. Yeah I know how you feel, this has happened to me plenty times before...

With the girls, keep them separated and just ignore them (they'll go to sleep on their own). If they keep coming down the stairs, walk them back up until they get the picture.

For the boys alert them fifteen minutes ahead of time, and if they still do not turn it off, turn it off yourself and take the controllers away. Tell the step-dad what you did, he should understand.

  6. You have to have authority. Turn the plastation off- Remove it to a place they will never find/never get.

Tell them to go to sleep, your tone should say your feelings.
