Okay, I'm doing this mother's helper job and I don't know what to do to occupy the kids! It's a girl in kindergarten, and another girl who's not in preschool yet. Their mom is trying to work while I'm there, so I don't want them to disturb her. Please give me a list of things to do to distract them!

  1. rent there favorite movie. get some popcorn.

ask them what they want to do. you'll be suprised, they actuall think on there own.

  2. i know exactly how you feel. i started off as a mother's helper too. here are some distractions:

Children love magic, learn some simple magic tricks

Kids love to be chased so play tag, but you will always have to be it so be prepared

set up a fun scavenger hunt ex: hide balls, toys, pillows (can play out doors too!)

Sometimes kids like to walk around the woods so maybe you can take them on a nature walk but fyi BRING BUG SPRAY!!!

i hope this list helps, and if you need more ideas email me!

  3. DOLLS! DRAWING's just make EVERYTHING into a big game x

  4. Not so much do but explore all sorts of materials; home made dough, paint, paper, clay, water, sand-outdoors and indoors.  Create a routine that includes variety; daily walks in the park, visits to library, museum, cosy time from 4pm with books or children's programmes, tea and toast.  making something for Mum each day will help them all to stay connected and will remind her to be involved with her children when your time is over.  Enjoy them!! Good luck!

  5. Barbies

    Coloring books

Favorite tv show [make sure u know the times of them]

    dress up

    nail painting

    hide & seek

    tell stories

  6. Make up a chart, with columns that show your activities and they get a star if they do a good job.

Try some cooking, You do the measuring and let them mix and shape.  Cookies and cakes, can be decorated with little fingers.  Be prepared to have them "help" you clean the kitchen. Cookies and the items could be shared with a friend or neighbor.

Give them so challenging coloring jobs. Maybe making some paper dolls and clothes separately.  Be careful with the scissors.  Have them make a gift for a sick neighbor.

Some simple games with cards, jacks, pickup sticks and other such

Learning how to be a good citizen. Give them points/stars to clean their room. Put away their toys. being quiet, cleaning their bathroom.

Be sure to keep the activities on their ability levels. That age can really do a lot and these activities will make them good family members.

and don't forget a nap time.

And think of a good reward for getting lots of stars.

    good luck
