I want to start babysitting next year, what should I do to prepare, what courses should I take and what should I do in my job. If you are a babysitter could you please list everything you do from before getting to the home, getting to the home, staying at the home and leaving.

Also, parents, what do you do when for and when the babysitter comes?

Thank you.

  1. i used to be a babysitter now i pay them...

There should be a babysitters course in your area that you can take..this is a good little course, and should even offer first aide.

As for what to do...1. if the parent needs you for 6pm, for example, then be there 15 minutes early, just like anyjob. this way the parent has time to give you rules and such and still have time to leave on time. Second, try not to be shy with the parents. We want someone who shows they are comfortable..so be polite and talk with them, also with the children before the parents leave...3rd. Do your job, you are their for the kids, so stay off the phone, computer and TV. Play with the kids. 4th, and probebly close to very important, clean your mess. Whatever mess you make including dishes at their house, you clean up after yourself! I have come home to messes that just uncalled for, and i wont get those girls to babysit again.

Always make sure a baby, has fresh diaper on...

Thats all i can think of right now, but its really pretty simple.... Have fun with your job, but be somewhat professional too. we as parents like resposible kids watching our kids, but we like our kids to like the sitters too.

  2. along with everything above me .....since you have some time yet i would take a cpr class...you may never need it but if you do its usefull to know...and i would feel better knowing my child's babysitter was cpr certified...you may be able to get more jobs just by showing your card your local health department may know where and when a class is its also usually free or of low cost

  3. Babysitting courses shows you how to do CPR, but it would be nice to be certified in CPR. Also maybe you should look and see if you have a child development course in your area. Really as a babysitter your job is to play with, feed, and watch the kids. There is really nothing else you need to prepare before getting to the home. Also what the parents do for the babysitter depends on the person so you would have to ask the parents before. Also you can ask the parents what they would want you to do specifically before you start watching their kids (ex, cleaning, dishes, laundry). You should also have a list of emergency numbers given to you before the parents leave. Good Luck!
