[Babysitting] how much would you charge for boys?

I got this babysitting offer, and kids are two boys. 5 and 2.5.

They say they will pay $10/hour

But I have 3 year experience as a full time nanny, and I used to babysit one baby for $10/hour. So I feel this is not much...

I do understand that the price are depending on families, but wanted to ask here.

  1. Well they are both small, and the lil one will be sleeping for most of the time, but ask them for 12.5 hr, or 13

  2. 10 an hour is great, dont be greedy

  3. I was paid $8/hr with three kids who ran around screaming and pulling my hair.

    You will live, honey.

  4. wow 5 and 2.5 charge between  10 and 20 dollers

  5. Thats fair for 2 kids. Where I live 2 kids would cost 800/month in daycare, so you're making more than that. Sounds fair to me.

  6. 10 dollars

  7. ask for like $6 per kid an hour

  8. 13$ per owwa

  9. maybe 15 or even 10 if they can't afford 15 or 20 so don't ask to make it higher because you will  loose your job if you raise it.

  10. Depends on where you live etc. I get $12 an hour as a nanny now, but babysitting tends to be less since its easier to find people on the nights and weekends and less is required. Nannies make meals, drive the kids places, take them to doctor's appointments.... babysitters play a little and watch TV while the kids sleep.

So if this is a nights and weekends stay there while the kids sleep kinda thing I would say $10 an hour is very fair. If not, a little more would make more sense, like $12 - $14.

For the peeps comparing babysitting to daycare... people always pay more for nannies than for daycare. A nanny is one on one attention at your house. You don't have to drive the child anywhere, you can install nanny cams, you know who is taking care of the child that day. Daycare is like one on six attention, so you really can't compare those prices. You can get daycare for $125 a week often less. A nanny is $400 a week minimum.

  11. 12$

  12. I nanny too. I think it depends on what kind of work you'll be doing and how often. If it's like, 3 times a week plus laundry and stuff, I would charge 12.00 p/h. If it's occasional babysitting and nothing else, I think 10.00 p/h is ok.

  13. It depends on how well behaved they are.  What the going rate in the area is.  Being a nanny in my opinion is a little more responsibility than just plain babysitting.  I think that nannying involves having a more of a long term influence on the children.  Where we live (Rural PA)  The going rate is about $5 or $6 per hour.  Regular day care is $2.25 per hour.

  14. Since you have 3 whole years of experience, 10 dollars an hour for 2 boys is definitely not enough. I'd say charge anywhere from 12-14 dollars.

  15. I'd look at the rates of what people charge at daycare per kid since you are experienced then I'd charge that.

  16. Around where I live (Boston) people who have certifications in CPR and are experienced child care givers charge about $20 an hour.  Based on who I would interview when I started looking for a caregiver for my baby (due Nov), I'm expecting to pay between 20 and 30 for one infant.

For two kids, the least I would expect to pay is 15, regardless of where I lived, with the rates being higher in urban areas.
