Question:

Babysitting rates for experienced babysitter?

I'm 17, & am an experienced babysitter.

I'm new to this town, & have found a woman who wants me to babysit her child.

I'm trying to babysit for money, which I've never done it for money before, so I was wondering, how much should I charge/hour, for a 7th month old?

  1. Discuss it with the mother. I charge different rates for different people. The more often I babysit for them, the less hourly I charge, because I make more money. Either way, find out what she's comfortable with. Half the time I don't even ask for a specific amount and end up making more that way. :)

  2. Ask the parent what she is willing to pay.. if u think its worth your time, go for it.. if not, tell her you need more.. U decide what your worth and dont stop until you get it..  U need to think about any bills you might need to pay, like insurance for a vehicle, gas and cell phone.. Dont work for less than your bills are and if you cant pay your bills, think about having less.. its the real world out there @ 18, so you dont have long!  Go to your local bank and ask them to help you open a checking account.. once you do, they will help you with a budget on paying your bills.  Good luck!

  3. depends on where you live and how much money she makes. i live in an upper-class syracuse suburb with my dad and get about $10/hour from the people i sit for. They have a 1 year old. I'm 18. But when I used to live with my mom in a lower-class area, i got $3/hour to babysit a 2 year old. I also did an overnight price of $25. now my overnight is $50 (20 hours), full day $25 (10 hours), afternoon/morning $12 (5 hours). It also depends on if you're sitting at their house or your own. But sit down and talk to the woman, and try to come up with a decent rate. maybe not hourly but based on something like i do. it's more of a scale for time and is a better deal for both of you

  4. I would ask for 10 dollars per hour. Then negotiate. If the parent says it is too much then say ok 9. And it works like that. Ask for a high or decent amount and then you work with the parent to get an agreed upon rate. Sometimes it is better to just let them pay you whatever they think is appropriate. Sometimes wealthy people will pay you MORE than you would ever ask for. If they have a nice house and drive expensive cars just tell them to pay you "whatever they would consider a reasonable fee for watching their infant child"

  5. I would charge $5-8 and hour. I am experienced and that is what i charge. I think of it as i am reasonable but that way they can ask you more often to babysit and not have you babysit once in a while for a shorter time period. I get called a lot more the cheaper i am and i end up making more money that way.

Good luck with the 7 month old I love little babies.
