Babysitting rates for young teens starting out....?

My 13 y/o neighbor took a babysitting class and is ready to start sitting. She's hung around the house helping me out and playing with the kids for the past year so I know she's ready. I've always had older sitters that drive--and have paid them well, but since my kids are a little older now--I am ok with breaking in a new younger sitter for a few hours at a time. I will still use our other sitter for the longer nights. How much did some of you make an hour when you first started out--and how old were you?

  1. im living in the uk, my sitter comes every friday and saturday night and from 5 pm she sits until im home. i have 1 son who is 3 1/2 he goes to bed around 8pm. i pay my babysitter 10 pounds

  2. I am 12 and I just recently started babysitting.I watch a 4 year old every thursday and I get paid 15-20 dollars depending on how long I watch her

  3. At first I'd watch my god brother from 7:30 to 10-10:30 since his mom had to go to school on Saturdays and his dad didn't get off of work until 8 and they didn't have a car yet. I made 5 bucks doing that every other Saturday. Then I started watching him from 3:05(His dad picked me usually only takes 5 minutes to get to their house from my school) to 7-8 while his mom was at work and his dad was at school. That was only on Mondays. I made 10 bucks for doing that. Now I babysit 4 days a week, 3  hours for my god brother while both his parents are at work. I make 30 bucks a week now. Sound like teen parents? Haha. Wrong. They're both in their 30's. Just thought I'd add that because most people think that they're like 16 and 17. My god brother is 2. I started when I was 11 almost 12 I think.

  4. I was 13 when i first started babysitting and i got paid £35 a night witch was about from 9.00 pm - 11.00 pm!!

  5. I make $5  an hour for watching 2 kids which is from 2nd-5th graders, but i don't know where you live and i don't know how many children you have.

I also babysit for younger children from 3-5 years old and get $10 an hour

I live in central illinois, but like if you live in like a town like bloomington, illinois my friends says she pays her babysitter $10 and hour for her younger boy and in chicago i think the rate is more

and my sister who just turned 13 will be getting $2.50 when she starts babysitting next summer which will turn out to be $5 and hour

so my rate is $2.50 per child every hour

  6. Well, how many children do you have?

I am 13 and just started babysitting and thankfully my first babysitting job was a few months ago from my neighbor as well. I had played with her kids with my younger sisters and them and was in the same situation as your neighbor is. My mom discussed that it was my first time and my mother took the two oldest kids and I tok the youngest and got paid twenty bucks for three and a half hours. A month and a half later  was asked to babysit all three kids and I did. I got paid thirty five dollars for all three for two and a half dollars. I was soooooooooooo grateful. That was very very generous of them. I have babysat other familys for the past four weeks in a row. One with five kids and got paid ten bucks an hour, but that is kid of low and the next was four kids for three hours with forty bucks between me and my friend who came to help me out.

So I was very very grateful to my neighbor because she refered me to her friends and I got more jobs for babysitting. So I would give about 6 dollars an hour plus two dollars more an hour per additional kid.

    So two kids = 8

    So 3 kids= 10

    So 4 kids= 12

    so 5 kids =14

^Thats just a guess. I normally just take what people give me, and I dont have a rate. But read my question for what I consider an exception. I live in New York, and normally the rate charged is larger than alot of places but maybe you will agree. And try using the 13 year old for longer nights, alot of the time they will get paid less and still be very grateful.

    Hope I Helped. =]

  7. When I babysit I say to the parents charge whatever they think is best. Sometimes I think it's not fair what I'm paid ($1 per kid per hour in one case, and one of them is a baby, so he's extra work), but it's the parent's decision with me. I usually charge $5.00 per hour though, and that's what most people charge these days. Good luck to your new babysitter :)
