BabysittingRates?

I don't know what to charge for babysitting. I am thirteen, and I don't know whether to have a rate or let the parents pay what they wish. I don't really want to do that. Right now, I need a rate for four kids, one is about 2ish, and the triplets(yeah, tell me about it) are 4ish. They are kinda crazy, but very cute. the parents are gone every wednesday night from 5-9. I want to get a pretty good amount, but not too much. What should i charge per kid/per hour? like 2 bucks per kid per hour?

  1. as per your request from the other question.....

at your age and experience level...your rates should be negotiable.  as a professional nanny i make $12-15 per hour....but i have training and credentials.  you are best asking for no less than minimum wage in your area.  most parents are happy to pay at least that.  be honest...tell the mom that you are unsure of an acceptable rate, she won't underpay.  say you are new to this and figured minimum wage was acceptable.  I know you mentioned going to the pool, but if you stay at their home, try to clean up too.  always tend to the kids first, but if you have a moment...throw some dishes in the dishwasher or wipe off the counters.  it shows the parents you are serious about your job.  anyway...feel free to email me if you have additional questions.

  2. Considering they are giving u 8 dollars and hour and it is 4 kids it should be around 12-15 dollars an hour.

But then u have to take into consideration how much the family makes.  Like if they aren't rich and they have to take care of 4 kids on their paychecks that definately has to be hard.  In this situation u are getting the right amount.

  3. normally going rate is 3$ per hour but my mom has twins and we pay our babysitter 2.50 per hour because their are two of them i think 2.50 an  hour is good trust me it adds up fast        i wouldnt let the parent choose because that buts them in an uncomfortable position because they dont no how much is fair either

  4. i will just charge 8-10 dollars a hour. i dont like charging per kid.

  5. when i babysat i got about 10 an hour

  6. I paid a babysitter that had professional experience as a nanny for triplets 10 an hour for 2 kids (4yrs and 15mths).  Considering its only a few hours once a week, I'd say for 4 kids you could (and should get) 8-10 an hour.

  7. Well, you have to talk to the parents about that, maybe you can meet in the middle and come up with an amount that suits both of you.
