  1. Okay. So first do you have any qualifications? Have you taken a babysitting class? Are you going to provide meals and snacks for the child that you are babysitting? How long have you been babysitting?  Are you babysitting more then one child? Are you going to do dishes and or chores as well? Some of these things can influence the amount that you charge for your babysitting. I would suggest you go to a babysitting class where you can learn CPR because parents will feel safe leaving their kids with you thus you can make more money. You can negotiate with them too- I'm sure they'd be happy to up your price if you continually show them responsibility responding in the case of a possible emergency and having them come home to happy and healthy kids will directly show them that you are the babysitter to beat and deserve a higher wage.

  2. You have to consider what are you expenses and what are your qualifications.

After you know about how much you need you can go from there. Do you want to be paid hourly or by the day?

I would suggest being open to negotiation. Ask your parents how much you think you should ask for and then make it clear you're willing to go down if need be to the people considering hiring you.

The type of pay really depends on how old you are, have you been doing this long, do you have any classes you've taken such as CPR that would impress the parents and make them feel better. If you do you can usually ask for more. If not then just stick with a low reasonable price.

If they ask why so much then explain to them your situation that you have bills that you need to pay and are trying to provide your way through school. They will usually respect that.

I've seen babysitters ask for as little as 5dollars an hour to 15dollars an hour. You can also charge more depending on the amount and ages of the children. Just remember if you charge them a lot and they are willing to pay it you better work hard and impress them so they will keep you and tell their friends about you.
