This is probably a stupid question, but what is the difference between a maya wrap and a ring sling, and which one would you recommend?

  1. A Maya Wrap is actually a type of ring sling. It is a long piece of fabric that is worn across the shoulder and waist and baby fits snugly into the fold. See: http://www.mayawrap.com

A ring sling or double ring sling is any style of sling that uses this concept...two rings and long piece of fabric to secure baby.

A moby wrap (or similar) is a long piece of fabric that is tied around Mom and baby is wrapped in to. http://www.mobywrap.com

For a newborn I would recommend any style of ring sling (I've heard great things about the Maya Wrap) or a Moby Wrap. We currently use a Moby with our 8 month old (20lbs) and I wish I had it when he was a newborn. For a newborn in a Moby I would suggest the cradle hold or sleepy hold and for an older baby I would recommend the back hold or kangaroo hold.

  2. A maya wrap or maitai is just a square with a tie on each corner-the ring sling is contures and MUCH more comfortable. There is another one-i don't know what it's called but you can make it with about five metres of 750cmwide strong fabric and can wear about five ways until the child is about five yrs.

  3. I ordered a hotsling (similar to a ring sling without the adjustment) and I just love it!
