Question:

Babywearing Mamas: Do you also use a stroller?

I plan to wear my baby so I'm not sure whether or not to get a stroller. I'm wondering if I'll want one later (at a year or so) when they get too heavy. If I do get one I'd want one where the seat can flip around to face you (the Quinny Buzz is the one I'm looking at) so we can still interact. What do you think? If you wore your baby when they were young, did you eventually use a stroller or is that just another unnecessary piece of equipment?

  1. I had had a pouch and a stroller. Yes my back hurt like heck but I still did it sometimes. Also I used my stroller. At some point the child will want to be more mobile. She or he will want more freedom than being constantly stuck to you so the stroller when you are out and about is a good backup when your baby gets bored with one, you have something to switch back and forth with.

  2. There's nothing wrong with wearing your baby. Stroller's can be good if you have a bunch of babies around you but if its just you and one little one, then wearing your baby is fine.

But keep in mind on the stuff you have to carry just in case an "emergency" pops up.

  3. This may sound funny, but the stroller is good to carry other things.  You can put your diaper bag, purse and other gear in the stroller.  I haven't heard of people having back pain wearing their babies, but I suppose you must be right.  Your back gets used to the weight you are carrying.  It's the best thing you can do.  You will see that your relationship will be close forever making this choice.  And yes, I did end up using the stroller later on, for a little while, but only until they walked, then there was no need to push them around and make them lazy.

  4. You may plan to do things while pregnant, but your baby may have a different agenda. There is no baby-wearing strap thing that will work all the time. Your back will hurt, you can say it won't but I am guessing that you are a new mom and have never done it. You should absolutely get a stroller, your baby may not let you carry them strapped so close to your body, mine didn't. All I'm saying is be prepared for anything, because you don't know what your baby will prefer. You won't always be able to carry the baby like that, what about when he goes to visit family, or goes to day care or whatever, are you expecting everyone to carry the baby like that.

  5. I think the things to wear your baby are unnecessary. I had one when my daughter was a month old and it hurt my back really bad to carry her. Strollers you will use till there 4 or 5. There not a unnceseary peice of equipment.

  6. i still wear my baby and he's 6 months old now...but i don't know what i'd do w/out my travel system!  it's nice to have if the baby falls asleep in the car - you can just transfer him from the car to the stroller w/out disturbing him.  i also have a 2 year old, so we have a double stroller - there's no way i'm going to wear him too lol. to me, it was absolutely necessary to have one.  :)
