Bacary Sagna: Arsenal will become stronger after Champions League disappointment
Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna believes that the Gunners will learn a lot from their recent defeat to Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League.
Sagna claims that the Gunners will become a stronger side after the loss, and they may just go on to beat Manchester United in the race for the Premier League title in the ongoing 2010-11 season.
Speaking after the match, Sagna said, “We can learn a lot from Barcelona - they kept playing as a team, kept passing the ball quite well. We have to think about the way they played and it must be an inspiration. We have to be strong because we want to be
successful. We have to fight for the team, for the fans and everyone.”
The defender claimed that the Champions League exit has increased the focus on the trophies that are left to fight for, namely the FA Cup and the Premier League titles.
Sagna added, “Everyone is still confident we can win something. We just want to train as hard as we can and give the maximum. We are ready to fight because we are even more frustrated after what happened last night (against Barcelona) and we want to give
more.”
Arsenal were knocked out of the Champions League after their 3-1 defeat to Spanish giants Barcelona at the Nou Camp. The Gunners failed to capitalise on their first leg lead, ultimately losing 4-3 on aggregate. It was a better score line than the encounter
between the two in the previous season; however, the outcome was the same.
The Gunners seemed destined to lose from the moment http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lionel-Messi-c22296 opened the scoring. The Argentinean gave his side the advantage in the tie with his strike in the injury time of the first half, and it was all downhill for Arsenal from there.
Arsene Wenger’s men failed to muster a single shot on target throughout the match, their only goal coming from a wayward header from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sergio-Busquets-c33048.
To add insult to injury, striker Robin van Persie’s was harshly sent off with a quarter of the game left to play. However, despite all that happened, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Bacary-Sagna-c7148 is choosing to focus on the bright side. Sagna believes that the Gunners can
learn from their mistakes to emerge stronger from their defeat.
The Gunners will be looking to bounce back from the recent defeat as soon as they can. They will get a chance to do just that when they face Manchester United on Saturday, 12 March, 2011.
