Bachinger/Moser edge past Fleming/Hutchins into the final – Atlanta Tennis Championships 2011
Germans Matthias Bachinger and Frank Moser survived second set bashing to defeat Colin Fleming and Ross Hutchins of Great Britain in three sets 6-4, 1-6, 10-8 in the semi-finals of Atlanta Tennis Championships at Racquet Club of
the South in Atlanta on Saturday. The German pair took an hour and twenty minutes to overcome their opponents.
Bachinger and Moser made the initial breakthrough, breaking the Brits in the third game of the first set and holding their serve in the next game to take a 3-1 lead. Fleming and Hutchins broke back in the eighth game to tie the
score at 4-4. The Germans broke again in the next game and served out the set at 5-4.
Bachinger and Moser delivered 69 percent of the first serves and four aces in the opening set. The German team had a satisfactory first serve performance as the clinched 65 percent of the first service points and 67 percent of
the second service points in the first set. While, Fleming and Hutchins smacked two aces and committed the same number of double faults. The Brits kept their first serve percentage at 56 percent, claiming 64 percent of the points on the first serves in the
opening set. The 26th ranked pair converted one of the four break points they received on Bachinger and Moser’s serve but failed to save both break points they faced on their own serve in the first set.
Fleming and Hutchins thrashed their opponents in the second set, breaking the Germans in the second and fourth game to blaze forward to a 5-0 lead. Bachinger and Moser managed to avoid a bagel set as the held their serve in the
sixth game to reduce the deficit to 1-5. The Brits served out the set in the next game, claiming it 6-1.
The fourth seeds hit 59 percent of the first serves and won an amazing 100 percent of the first service points in the second set. Fleming and Hutchins did not face any break point on their own serve and capitalised on both break
point opportunities they created on the German pair’s serve in the second set.
In the match tie-break, Bachinger and Moser claimed an early mini-break and capitalised on it to win 10-8. The Germans fired two aces and 56 percent of the first serves, converting 100 percent of them into points in the match tie-break.
Bachinger and Moser are drawn to take on Alex Bogomolov Jr. and Matthew Ebden in the title match.
