Question:

Back Speakers Do not Seem To Be Working?

Just bought this 98 SUZUKI Esteem station wagon, and it comes with two impressive speakers in the trunk. What I noticed is that no sound seems to be coming out of them. I have an aftermarket "OPTIMUS" CD player installed by previous owner. Could the problem be any of the following (or anything else)?

1- Stereo is a 2 channel system --> only front speakers work. How can I fix that? Any harness etc.?

2- Some fuse is burnt out? Where can I locate that?

3- Speakers are dead? How do I test for that?

4- Anything else??

Any help here would be greatly appreciated. I have had a couple of car radios installed before, and would not mind trying to fix this at home before hitting my BESTBUY or RADIOSHACK for some professional help :-)

Thanks a bunch

  1. Some Optimus CD players were made by Pioneer.  If there's an "audio" button, look for an option labeled "FIE".  If it's on, turn it off.  Pioneer decks have this feature, and it often makes people think the rear speakers are defective.

Unless the CD player is much older than the car, it's unlikely to be a 2-channel system.  There's also no fuse that would control the rear two speakers.

Have you found and adjusted the fader control?

  2. If the stereo is only 2 channel you'll need to upgrade to a 4 channel stereo.

If a fuse is burnt out the whole thing wouldn't work, car manufacturers don't fuse speaker wires

the only way a speaker could be "dead" is if one of the wires isn't connected to the speaker

If your radio has a fader set it to the rear of the car, if not then it probably is only a two channel radio and you just need a new one.  and don't go to radioshack for car audio help

  3. if its only a two channel system then just connect the rear speakers to the same wires as the front speakers. the speakers will have less power so you could get an amp if you want. i would just get a new deck

it wouldnt be a fuse and if the speakers are blown just plug them into another stero to test them(even a house stereo will work)

you may have a factory amp hidden somewhere so instead of taking it out the previous owner just didnt connect the rear speakers.

  4. i don'tt think that your cd player is a 2 channel.. just connect a normal battery to the speakers are working. they should make a popping noise if they are working. if not then they blown

  5. if the stereo is 2 channel, that means it will only power 2 speakers, if you want more you need an amp and a crossover
