Question:

Back fill material?

My foundation is done, and I need material to backfill, and the soil there was wet clay, so I had to remove the center of the foundation down to the four foot footing area. So now I need to fill up the inside as well as the outside of the foundation.

I am looking for recommendations for materials to use, trying to keep the cost down as much as possible. The center is the biggest problem, 1500 square feet, three and a half feet high, so I would like to try to keep the cost down.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

  1. Why are you filling the inside?  4' is a decent size crawl space if you ever needed to access the underside of the house.

Use drain tile and drain rock around the outside for the downspouts to empty into.

  2. if its available use river rock as your bulk material

  3. Any local construction going on? Any land clearing? Any ads or notifications of free fill, even "Rubble" fill? Have you cleared the clay hardpan, in the area? Can you haul any fill? OR check out constructions that might be Ok dumping a truck load on your lot?

    Just my two "sense"

By my not so great math calc. you're looking at something under 4700 CU FT of fill, with NO crawl space
